| Probably because the firmware doesn't support the Taiyo Yuden 16x DVD-R (TYG03) media which is newer than the drive is. Look at Pioneer's website for a possible firmware update to include support for this media. If no such update exists, you will have to live with the 4x burning speed, get some other media, or get a new DVD burner.
