Do not get cd-r audio disks unless you are using a stand alone audio cd-recorder.

If you are using a cd recorder in a computer, just get high quality cd-r's like tayio yudens, or verbatims.

I wouldn't buy them, except for the reason stated above.

I burn all my audio CDs on the PC, and I've even used Ritek CDRs, which are surprisingly good.

No one has mentioned the difference.

"CD-R Audio" (aka "CD-R Music") are CD-Rs for which a royalty has been made to various music industry organizations (supposedly as compensation for royalties lost due to copying of commercial CDs).

There is no technical difference, except that standalone CD Recorders require that media due to the royalty compensation issue (I assume that Recorders look for a code on the CD-R).

So, if you are using a PC CD-RW, then it is only a question of whether the quality and price of the CD-R Audio disc matches your needs and is competitive with other CD-Rs that are available.

I have a CD changer that I think was purchased in 1997. It does not take your run of the mill CD-R's. It will sometimes play the Audio CD-R's, but it struggles with them for some reason. The only brand I have tried is the Fry's house brand "Great Quality."

Reasons NOt to buy cd-r audio blanks:

1. As already explained, they are more expensive because royalties have been paid. The physical difference is that the blank used to make a cd-r audio blank has molded into it, near the hub, a anomaly, that, when rotated, produces a modulated frequency. All but the earliest standalone recorders (and a few pro models) have firmware that detects this signal, if it's not present, it locks you out of recording. Other than this, the rest of the blank is identical to 'normal' cd-r blanks... with the following caviat:

Today just about the ONLY cd recorders you can buy that can record at 1X speed, and are optimized for such speed, are standalones, which are still often used for 'live recording' since most include microphone inputs. I'm unaware of ANY cd-r formulation that can be optimized for a recording speed range of 1X to 48X (let alone 52X). I'm willing to bet since almost all cd-r audio blanks still have to consider being burned at 1X, most if not all, are not as good performers at high speeds...

The difference is that you pay tax (digital right tax)for the CD-R audio and thus paying for price premium. The CD-R audio has the code encrypted and thus will work with a home stand alone CD-R audio recorder, the CD-R will not work in a stand alone recorder

Hello everyone, I have a JVC Stand Alone CD Burner and I also have one on my PC, now I was at the Best Buy the other day and the guy who showed me where the blank CD-R's were told me that any of the CD-R's would work on my PC and also on my JVC, well he is wrong because my JVC will only use the CD-R's that say for home audio recorders, also there are a few that say for Home Audio Recorders and also PC's, now I had in the past bought a regular CD-R and put it in my JVC recorder and it said no disc, now the guy argued with me about that and for some reason he did not believe me because he claimed all the CD-R's will work in any CD Burner including the JVC stand alone burner, well I know better but can anyone tell me what the difference is in a Home Audio CD-R and a PC CD-R and also why the PC only CD-R's will not work in my JVC Stand Alone Burner.
