There's no way to tell without opening the packaging. It used to be that the top disc was visible (around 2004-early 2005 I guess) but then Verbatim started putting a paper label on top of the top disc and it's been that way since.

Keep in mind, I have been able to salvage some mediocre MCC 004 by burning on a Pioneer 111 or an LG at 8X. Not as good as alan1476's scan above but defiantly worth keeping.

For some reason, I was under the impression that the paper insert wasn't on the neo-Verbs? You guys who have them let me know?

The new packaging has the paper insert as well I'm afraid.

I have to say that I'll probably pick up both some +Rs and some -Rs despite the fact that my ZD5518's were the worst Verbatims I've ever had. Even burned at 4x, they weren't up to the standard I'd previously seen in Verbatim.

Scans here, compared with some MMC01RG20's I picked up for a decent deal at meritline: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=142

...and yeah, I've been lurking for a while.

Very true

I've had a 100 MCC004 pack from OM that are Prodisc made and I sold 50 of them to a friend because I found them horrible with Benq 1640 or LiteOn 20A1P @8X, then I decided to hook my Pioneer 111L and for my amazement the quality was excellent @8X with ~7.5% Jitter and beautifull PIF/PIE count

I noticed you scanned at 4X, so I tried it. Is there a reson for this, the usual for BenQ drives is 8X.

He probably scanned at 4x because the drive was a LiteOn type BenQ DW2000 which is the same as the 20A1P. Many of the 18x and 20x LiteOn drives have issues scanning at 8x. My 18A1P produces jibberish at 8x.

I'm guessing both the Litey and BenQ scans were done on the same drive. The DW2000 is a rebadged LH-201AP, a 1ECC scanner that's a little unpredictable @ 8x.

edit: guess I'm getting slow in my old age.

Hi Dalen:

This new code that everyone is talking about now, the CS10-? I see it on the nib of the spindle top but is it also on the discs?

No, it's not on the discs....

I maybe able to recover these poorer batches that I have on the Plextor 760 @ 6x with a custom write strategy.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've had only one decent burn out of a random sampling of five from this stack of 100 -R's I got from the sale.

These were ZD9030's, burned at 12x on my Asus 1680p2s, which gives good results on other 16x discs I've used.

4x scan of the last one I did:

I think I may take them back.

4x scan of another Verbatim burned with the same burner at the same speed with the same data:

Those are good burners, I foresee no problems. I'm going to exchange the 100 stack I got, but the vast amount of Verbies that I've owned have been top-notch.

Good enough for your sprites anyway.

Verbatim DVD+R 100 pk. $59.99 in Amarillo, TX. USA. Didn't check DVD-R. Had a $10 off coupon burning a hole in my pocket. I was able to get a 100 pk a week or so ago when they were 24.99 - 10.00 = $14.99. The shelf tag at the time said $59.99.

It sure is a great price. 14 cents a disc for this media cannot be beat. Good deal.
