Benq 2000 was working just fine untill I ran a 16X scan with it and was playing Fifa08 and forgot about it sometimes hanging around 4MB @16x scan speed and when I stopped playing after 30 minutes , the drive won't recognize anything EVEN CDs
I just got home with the replacement and will connect it shortly , Made In China on 21 November 2007 with f/w 9B3B and I wish it is LiteOn 20A4P that "may" not have the same defects

What happened to your drive sounds like what happened to my Philips SPD2513BD which I had crossflashed to an LH-20A1S. 16x scan, hung up, after that only recognizes some media (blank or burned).

So what's the deal, is the Philips SPD2413BM cross-flashable to something, and if so what's the best bet (for ripping/burning) and how do you do it?

And what about the Liteon in this deal, the DH-20A4H, anything fancy there firmware-wise?

Uh oh. I think I got a bad drive. Should I RMA it? This was an 8x burn with OHT turned on. Firmware is stock. These were Lead Data Sonys under the Fry's "Great Quality" brand.

First burn with the Philips SPD2413 using GP04 stock. The Philips firmware doesn't support OHT so I couldn't use that. Settings the same as before, 8x with a Lead Data Sony -R under Fry's "Great Quality" brand. Dangit, two bad drives! I'm so mad at NewEgg right now!

Leave the firmware on the 20A4H alone! It works fine as it is. Just turn on OHT and you'll get incredible burns, even on crappy media.

The Philips is no slouch either, even with stock firmware. I'd say to make sure to backup the firmware on the Philips because GP04 isn't available anywhere except on shipped drives, and then try experimenting with 20A1P firmwares.

Once again, my best advice is to use the 20A4H as a burner-only, with stock firmware and OHT, and the SPD2413 as a burner/ripper, with enhanced firmware.

I dont understand any of the above posts. All the scan above look fantastic to me. I wish I were that lucky to have a Liteon or a Philipps that burned that well. Why on earth would you not be satisfied with these drives.

Just for the record, I never got good results like you with any media on any Liteon drives or the newer Philipps drives. From your scans I would be very happy.
