Bargain Basement Discuss, newegg.com ritek ridata $12 rebate bogus? at Community forum; I bought the Ritek Ridata 100 pack from newegg.com. I sent in the rebate and it was denied because ritek said newegg.com was not an authorized store. Since I found out about this through newegg.com isn't that false advertisement? I fired an e-mail to both companies. Hopefully it will be

Sorry to hear that. I like newegg most of my dvd media comes from them(95%) I have 3 rebates coming from them right now($10 a pieace) One of the rebates they tried saying that it was a duplicate order but when I called them I told them to look at the order number date and etc. and they acknowledged that it was there mistake and said they corrected it and it should be on the way soon

If this will help check your pm for a ridata phone number for rebates. It is a toll free number

I had no problems getting my rebate for Ritek disks i bought last year from Newegg. Took a couple months but i got it.

I'm with you Bigmike. I am following up. I will post my results. Kind of slow as it is the weekend and monday is President's day. Hopefully I will get a response by both companies on Tuesday.

I think the original poster just got info from the rebate center that was bogus. If you look at the form, it specifically states the rebate is ONLY for discs from Newegg.com. Sorry it isn't the original pdf; too big.

I got a very good person on the other end when I had to send two original UPC codes for two rebates at the same time (dumb marketing). He took care of it on the phone with no problem. If this place is like most and you don't get what you want call back until you get someone who is smart enough to fix it.

Someone should point out to said uninformed individual at the rebate center that Newegg is a certified reseller of Ritek products. At least it was listed as one along with Amazon, Meritline, and a couple of others on their USA website a couple months ago. I haven't checked to see if that had changed or not but assuming it hasn't.

Ritek is trying to scam you! The best way is to call their bluff, and tell them that this is fraudulent business practices. That you are going to make a complaint to the Federal Trade Commission. I had this problem with Ritek and Seagate rebates. Most companies will comply instantly, because they do not want to receive a fine from the FTC.

I got my Ritek/Newegg rebate in the mail this morning. It's the second one in the past 6 months. I really don't understand what's happening with the problems. It does take about two months to get their check (which is easy to mistake for junk mail).

A couple years ago, I received my rebate papers back from one of Officemax's vendors. It was denied. I took it back to Max and showed them that all was correct, and they gave me the $20.00 rebate directly.

These rebates are often denied as a "practice" of their business model.

In other words, "planned stealing."

I am extremely reluctant to buy anything with an MIR.

I would rather shop for the best price on the item, often this works out to the same -- or better -- price anyway.

Oh, yes,

I forgot to mention my brother's experience about 6 years ago with a rebate for big dough -- $50.00.

He bought one of the first CD writers for $500 + and sent in the rebate paperwork.

He received it back, and It was denied.

The turndown was very general, no specific reason for the refusal.

There was this wonderful kicker in the refusal: "you may correct your application for rebate and rebsubmit it ( by a certain date, which just happend to be the next day).

HA HA The greatest scam I ever saw in rebating.

I actually got a call from RitekUSA. Newegg contacted them (I think they forwarded my e-mail.) and they called to get my address. They said I should get my check in a few weeks. I'll let you know. I am still wary of MIR though. Not worth it for $12.

Newegg contacted Ritek about this and it turns out it was a computer glitch:

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. The problem was an internal error at the rebate company which caused an error resulting in reading as a non-valid retailer. The rebate company has already been notified of this issue and has taken measures to correct this problem. In conclusion, if you've already submitted a rebate certificate your submission will indubitably be re-submitted and should expect to see a check within the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Ritek and Newegg have always been good to me - good media, and I always got my rebates. I think you can check your rebate here to see if they fixed it: http://www.rebatestatus.com
