You forgot the free budget shipping and an extra $25 off if you get the Buy.com VISA card. Too bad I don't have any older retail burning software to get the $20 upgrade rebate (Oh, wait, I said I wouldn't do rebates anymore!) $48.78 - $25 = $23.78 with free shipping. Still not a bad deal if I keep the VISA just long enough to buy Nero.

Only thread I could find for Nero 7.
Anyway, CompUSA this week till 3/25/06, Nero 7 Ultra Edition for 39.99 with competitive/upgrade rebate of 20.00, final price 19.99 if you qualify for the rebate.
I don't, but I think 39.99 is great for an outright price.

You guys are nuts to even post that stuff here. Nero 7 is the most buggy POS out there. Seriously, can't tell you how many burn problems have been solved by people switching to different software or one of the older 6.6 revisions. Until they release a really solid version, don't waste your money on it.

Would I be entitled to download 6.6 should I register Nero 7?
TIA

Here's the thing, you go buy it for $19.99. You don't have to install it until they work the bugs out. I've got the limited Nero 6x that came with my drive and it's pretty solid, as you said. 6 months from now they will have sifted through the 1000 Nero 7 posts on cdfreaks and it will be just as solid. Then you install the POS, update it to the 7.0.580million release and you're golden.

That's pretty much where I was headed with it.....I haven't even cracked the cellaphane packaging, and have 21 days to return it to CompUSA.
I decided I would buy while the price was right, then research before I installed.
Have to agree with Jestarrace though, so far I haven't read to many favorable reports.
I thought I had read somewhere that owning a version of Nero, will allow you to download and run the older versions. Does anyone know if this is correct?
TIA

Sockeye,
That can get dodgy. Hey, read the posts about Nero 6 when it first came out. The read the posts about Roxio Easy CD "Cremator". Sooner or later you've got to install some multiple use burning software. You're already doing the research. Read carefully what actually goes wrong and why in the Nero Forum, none of it is catastrophic.. Every piece of burning software has its bugs and quirks. I've got Sonic RecordNow 7 (was 5 but HP upgraded it), Sonic DLA(don't get me started), Nero 6, Alcohol 120%, Imgburn all loaded. I used to use Easy CD on an old PC (don't get me started again). Sometimes I have problems relating to them all not playing nice in the sandbox. Mostly, I don't. I've never been dead in the water since you can work out most anything here. You bought it, install it, enjoy it.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.....I read your thread from a couple weeks ago on Sonic vs. Nero, and found it very informative.
Thanks

Sweet!! I am going to pick this up at Compusa for $40. The $20 rebate is good for receipt dates of 10/9/05 to 12/31/06 and you have to postmark it by 2/1/07. My only problem is finding an original user's manual title page from their list. All my burning proggies were purchased online with the exception of Sonic MyDVD. Apparently, Nero do not see Sonic as a competitor because they list only Roxio, Nero, Pinnacle, Intervideo and Ulead apps on their rebate.
