When you are filling out information for freebies, deals, in stores, or anywhere else, and you don't want to give out your home phone number, use Jconnect or eVoice.

You will receive a free phone number that you can give out, it takes whoever is calling to straight to your voicemail. You then receive the voicemail by email. You can also receive faxes to that number, and get them via email as well. Jconnect and eVoice require you to download their program to open the messages. For Windows and Mac OS.

The best thing about this number is that it is not fake! You can still get any messages if people want to get in touch with you, but you also don't get spammed by telemarketers.

I tested it by getting a free number. Only problem is I'm in CA, and the number assigned is in the MN area code. (763) Not very useful, but it is free.

Hiya...we should set up a phone number exchange... they gave me a Philly 297 exch.. I am in Minnesota so I could use your 763 number

Now we need to find someone in Philly that gets a CA number

I wonder if it is totally random, or if I could have told jconnect I was in CA and would get a number here....inquirying minds want to know

BTW, for a long time NetZero gave out phone numbers. Since I was doing business in LA and Vegas, I got local numbers in both cities as well as another number local to me in MN...they finally ended the free program...gosh darn...

eVoice gave me a 360 area code..kind of interesting in that I have a business name that starts with 360...hmmmm....

"Area code 360 is the area code for western Washington outside of the greater Seattle metropolitan area. It began service on January 15, 1995. The area, which encompasses all of western Washington outside of urban King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties and Bainbridge Island, was previously part of Area code 206. So it is also historic too...now I have a WA and a PA to trade for a MN

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but this thread is almost 5 years old, (brought back up by a spammer earlier today).

On the other hand, it's interesting to see both services still active with a free option.

weirdness...it showed up as a new message at the top of the list, that is why it got my attention...didn't think to look at the dates...,maybe the guy is still around with the MN phone number

i know this is a hella old thread, but K7 is great too. It gave me a local area code. (well, not long distance anyhow.. but the one just south of me- which is no big thing as i am actually IN the south part of my own, so plenty ppl i know have one or the other.)

Google voice can do this too and it is free. I have used it for credit info etc.... Yes it is free. You can have it linked to your home or cell phone or set to go to voice on google.
