Maybe it has been modified as only a trial version for the giveaway site

Kerry did state "Unfortunately, it looks like the menu access will disappear in 30 days"

Here is the window when I start it up:

And this is after the "activation" from GOTD.

This is from the giveawayoftheday site :
"The program is available for $49.99, but it will be free for our visitors as a time-limited offer. "
The version that is being given away wouldn't cost $49.99 if it was the 30 day free trial.
The "time-limited offer" is the standard 24 hour period that giveawayofthe day always has.
If it follows the ususal pattern it should be a full function version without updates or support. However I've never seen that mean no support to get it working in the first place.
Usually when a giveaway completely fails it is soon offered again .
Of course some people won't go to the trouble to try it a second time.

I just tried to register it again about 5 minutes ago & it is still the same.
This is what it shows after you enter the information & try to register .

Well, its finally come to the attention of the GOTD administrators:

Dear users,

we are aware of the situation with registration problems and have already contacted the developers. As soon as we get a reply from them, we will let you know.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
GOTD project team

It's about time . I emailed them & DVDFab support . So far no response from DVDFab support .
I tried the giveawayoftheday@dvdfab.com from my e-mail also but it came back as not delivered.
I also complained in the comments at giveawayoftheday.
I guess I was just in the mood to complain after posting this & having it not work.
One reason is some people think that giveawayoftheday is not that good of a place.
My experence has been about 90% positive with the site.
I have two indespensible programs I got from them that I would want to buy if the ones I have quit working . Capture Assistant & Adolix PDF Converter PRO .

Saw that they released this now on the DVDFab site.

Doubt it's possible to use this version to register.

Just caught this, and couldn't resist the challenge of trying to make it behave . Tried twice to register, same problem as everyone else. Tried right clicking the desktop shortcut and "run as administrator", registered, and done. No more "you have x days left" screen .

I'll save my critique for another time. They just gave it to me for free, I think I can be nice for a few minutes .

Thanks, that solved it. Even worked with the later version 1.0.1.7 beta.

I didn't have the desktop shortcut because I didn't install it.
I did the "Run as administrator" from the start menu shortcut & it worked as well.
I'm downloading the beta right now & will give it a go shortly.

Beta installed and prog still seems to be registered

@ Kerry: Seems they increased the read-ahead cache for disc playback, may work a bit better for you.

That's what happened for me . I actually have both installed right now .
Thanks for figuring out a solution deanwitty .
Funny that DVDFab support didn't know to do this.
With your permission I will post the solution in the giveawayoftheday comments
or you can if you like .

Considering the hassle that this clearly caused for folks, I don't feel too guilty about sneaking in one free update . It does appear that the program is improving from the first couple versions. Nice to see.

Thanks deanwitty

The paid version I have at home is the 1.0.1.5

It is definitely getting better, still some issues but the picture quality has improved.

I'm glad you'll get a chance to check it out again. Do download and register the new 1.0.1.7 beta and see if your playback is improved? I notice that where my drive was basically reading almost in real-time w/ earlier versions, now the drive reads and stops for an extended period while playing the movie.

I think bean55 is right. they're headed in the right direction .

I installed the beta on top of the free offer. Seems to be working ok as far as I can tell, but haven't run a disc with it yet.

Thanks again Dean.

I finally got a response from DVDFab at 4:38 AM 8/4/2012 a little over 2 hours late even if it had the solution which it didn't .
I'm going to post it here & from the way it is worded it might mean it will still work today.
So anyone that didn't get it to install might try again using deanwitty's solution.
Even if the time has expired.
Here's the e-mail minus a bunch of DVDFab links:
Quote:
Regarding your issue, please try to uninstall and reinstall DVDFab Media Player 1.0.1.5 at http://www.dvdfab.com/products.htm and then register DVDFab Media Player again to see the result.

Registration Email: giveawayoftheday@dvdfab.com
password: giveaway

Any questions in the future, please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely yours,

--

Hi Cholla

I didn't have any trouble registering it however I uninstalled it because every movie I played was flickering with periodic stopping during playback even after upgrading to v1017 beta.

And this morning I tried reinstalling the program but the installer from giveoftheday stated the time has expired, however the regular installer from DVDFab worked and the registration was still retained, so I could check to see if entering the registration will work

No need to do that SJ it might break what is working .
Maybe someone who didn't get the registration to work yesterday can test this.

I should have thought of that & posted . The giveawayoftheday installers always do that as soon as the expiration time is up .
It's good the one downloaded from the DVDFab site worked.
So if any trys it that's what they should use.

I installed 1015 a few minutes ago downloaded from Fab site just a few minutes ago. Did the "right click, run as admin", registered using info provided by cholla in post #46, downloaded 1017, again, downloaded just now from Fad site, updated, and all appears to be registered and working.

Good to hear it worked this way.
Maybe some others will be able to take advantage of this.
