I just did a fast check over at videohelp.com, and their database has no entries for CompUSA media rated faster than 4x. Knowing CompUSA, it's probably not very good.

their old 4x used to be ricohjpn r01 and optodisc. Their 16X are more likely optodisc if MIT.

Interesting. I actually like the OPTODISCR16 (16x DVD+R). It records very well on several of my drives. But how to know.... Anyone feel like being a guinea pig?

No! These are Princo! Stay away unless you are experimenting. See my post here:

A few months ago I bought a 50-pack of CompUSA 16x DVD-R's and they were Daxon. DAXON016S I believe. Not horrible, but not close to Verbatim quality.

Yes, it's frightening how good OPTODISC R16 can be. I would take it over YUDEN000 T03... but maybe not MCC 004

They are also found in Imation branded 100-packs that Office Depot stores are trying to clear out at the moment.

To spot them, look for a long barcode and letters OTC+R followed by a bunch of digits, in a circular pattern about 1/2" or 1 cm from the center of the disc.

Here's a picture of the barcode and alphanumeric codes that Optodisc DVDs have stamped on them.

Optodisc is even easier to spot than that. Just look for the black or dark grey spacer on the Imation packs. No need to waste time hunting for hub codes. The cakebox is also different and non-CMC style, so you can tell the difference a mile away.

OPTODISCR16 under Samsung Pleomax brand was the best media that gave me the least PIF/PIE that I've ever tried .

Latest Scan

Try to get this media from any place and try it , if it is that good , get as much as you can because I've read that OPTODISC Taiwan is out of business

That was a 16x burn, by LG GSA-H22N, but they consistently burn well in all other drives as well. It is very good media.

Those were most likely made in Malaysia. The MIT disks are Princo.

Princo 16x?? Never heard of that before. Are you thinking 4x speed or do you have some 16x?

went to compusa, some made in malaysia even the grey spacer. The MIT spindle has white spacer and noway to tell the serial since everything is covered up. So I guess imation at radioshack is the best bet, dark or black spacer and MIT

In fact I've burnt 2 of Princo 16X -R discs for a friend , they were scratched from paper sleeves and careless handling so I didn't scan them
