$2.99 BenQ DW1640 or Fraud?

Anyone get any feedback from this company yet? Curious to know how they will deal with this situation ... or if it really in fact turns out to be just a faceplate or some part.

I have not yet received anything. I just checked as of 2:35PM Monday and my order is still listed as "pending" when I log into their website.

Well, I'm sure everyone would like knowing that I have not called them.

I find it curious that somehow retailers can now 'cover themselves' from misprints or mistakes, as if I take an ad said retailer printed, they have to honor it for that price under the 'truth in advertising' law. If they don't, one can lodge very nasty complaints against said merchat with the BBB and other places, not to mention very correctly 'down them' at online review sites. If they advertise a lower price, then quote you a higher one after you've ordered, that's illegal as hell--it's known as a "bait and switch" tactic (I had heard of that tactic, but just from this case heard of someone finally getting prosecuted for it by consumers and state agencies alike). There's dozens of lawsuits against an Austin TX car merchant for doing exactly that--advertising on TV one price in big bold letters on TV, but in fine print listed some crap that people could have only read with electron microscopes. Even *with* that listed, it's got all consumer agencies in Austin and even the state on that merchant's case. So, if it's legal, then that car merchant wouldn't be in such hot water here.

My best guess would be that the people who run this website are consulting with their attorney about the best way to handle this situation. Apparently, my order was not "cancelled" immediately as some have suggested, yet it also hasn't been processed. I do not know if my card has been charged yet as it takes a few days for transactions to post to my account. I will definitely charge back if they bill me more than my invoice for this advertised product as well as filing a complaint at fraud.com for advertising a low price to get people to shop at their store.

My order is also still marked as pending. I'm not too worried about them charging us differently. I believe that it is illegal for them to charge you differently than the $15 without your permission. I kept a pdf of my screen order in case they try anything and I also used a virtual card number with a limit of $30 linked to my card so that is all they can get from my card if they try.

Maybe they are trying to determine if they want to give us a coupon when they cancel our orders. I think they know by their own priceing policy that they can cancel our orders. Just in case anyone is scared, I highly doubt that they can come after us for fraud because that was the dumb price they put up on their website. None of us made them put that price up.

They have cancelled my order stating that it was a pricing mistake.

Well, not surprising they wouldn't honor that price and fill the order, but at least they had enough guts to tell you why they cancelled.

All I can say, "If you feel you have harmed". You can always rate them on ReSellers Ratings...

quite true, although that's up to each person who had their order cancelled. I was going to place an order this morning, but 'the item was listed as restricted' when I got there. Doesn't matter, since they cancelled anyway. I would, however, have reservations about any site that advertises a low price and has no endorsements (i.e., BizRate rating, BBB rating at bottom of webpage, etc.), then still does something like that to top it off. It's just sloppy... since actions to me speak louder than words, it certainly isn't a good thing.

I just got my cancellation email as well. I thought it was only a matter of time before it came. I have never written a bad review for a company because I did not get an item that had an incorrect price marked. There policy states they have the ability to do so. I do appreciate when companies send cancellation emails with reasons. I probably will never buy anything from that site though because their normal prices don't come close to places like newegg, zipzoomfly, or monarchpc among others.

Even tho they have the right to refuse orders for pricing mistakes, I noticed none of you that were effected even bothered to write a review to warn other about their pricing. In here you told someone not to call because it may mess the deal up, yet you don't follow thru with ratings. The guy should have called and just ignored the other's advice. It appears it wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

How am I affected? I noted that I thought it would be cancelled. Calling always messes up the deal when it appears to be a price mistake. If you call them, they find out that there is an unintended low price for a product and all orders get cancelled. If they aren't questioned about a price, there is a small chance that some items may actually get shipped out before they have a chance to catch it.

Why would I rate some store as bad because they adhere to their posted policy of orders can be cancelled due to a price mistake? I would only write them a bad review if they shipped me another product than what I believed I ordered, they charged my card a different amount than I authorized, shipped me damaged or defective materials, or other related injustice. I don't consider a price mistake cancellation to be in that class.

Absolutely! We all KNEW that this was a goof up from the start. We tried to take advantage of the situation. There is no fault on this vendor besides a major f*ck-up on their webmaster's part... LOL Leave them alone. They'll probably NEVER get a dollar from anyone here anyway...

Well ... have you ever watched a Burger King commercial on TV? It's late, late at night, and you should really be in bed but you've got a hunger from HELL rumbling away. Along comes this TV commercial with some sexy music playing as flames are 'broiling' in the background, beads of grease sweating off the "flame broiled" hamburger meat, the cheese just melts in your mouth already, the fluffy bun (with all sesame seeds intact), stacked to the hilt with vibrant thick lettuce and juicy, thick cut tomatoes and onions ... so, you get your lazy butt off the couch and head over to the nearest BK. Order & pull up to the drive through. Damn, I'm stoked to eat and salivating like crazy. It's Harold & Kumar Go To New Castle all over again ... only this time ... you open the bag and unwrap the burger ... what do you get?

... a measly looking burger that literally looks like a piece of lettuce, maybe some onions thrown in somewhere with a few of those nasty tasting pickles, meat that's been charred all around the edges (and hard as a rock at the outer edge as well), and the bun is wet from the grease and mashed down looking like someone took the finished burger and compressed it in their armpit (and all the sesame seeds have fallen off into the wrapper, btw) ...

So, the experience leaves you feeling cheated, frustrated, underwhelmed, and probably pissed off ... so, will you buy another burger again from Burger King? .... ahhh ... perhaps ... perhaps not ...

Well we did notice the change in their website (Sorry, this product has been marked as restricted) on Sunday around 10PM Utah time. So there's no way somebody will pick up the phone. Stated there the hours are 8 AM - 6PM weekdays (Monday - Friday). Maybe someone emailed?

In any case, the "deal" is over.
