1 TB Hitachi Hard Drive 32mb of cache

Bargain Basement Discuss, 1 TB Hitachi Hard Drive 32mb of cache at Community forum; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822145164 I know this sounds expensive, but I am from the old school and I cannot pass up this drive. It will open up other SATA ports on my motherboard for optical drives. Now all I need is 2 hdds. Does anyone have this hdd? __________________ I do not provide

Now with this hdd, I will have plenty of room, and someone said this almost equals the WD Raptor in speed. If you would have told me 5 years ago that I could have 1TB of disc space for 350 bucks I would have said you were crazy.

In another 5 years we'll be talking about how expensive 1TB drives were in 2007

I cant really believe they can get much cheaper, .28 cents a gb is hard to beat.

Hi
In everyday use it won't beat your Raptor.
As for the storage capacity. Do you use what you currently have?
Everything on 1 drive. What happens when it fails?

Best Buy has 1TB Western Digital internal SATA hard drives for ~$270 out the door after tax. 16MB cache vs. 32MB on the Hitachi.

16MB of cache is not worth an extra $100 imho.

No I still have my RaptorX150mbs on my C drive with the Operating system files. This drive will only be for movies and other backup files. 2 drives, thats it.

I have seen this before, but thanks. I do not use any Raid configurations. No need for it. These are excellent reviews though.

I've seen nothing but good reviews of this drive. I really, REALLY want to buy it, but not for the increase in storage capacity... I would be able to free up enough physical 3D space inside my case to perhaps stick more than half my hand inside when switching out an internal ODD.

Buy me one, Alan.

From the looks of your configuration this would free up alot of space for you. ( Just take some short positions in the market before Oct10th) and you'll be able to buy 10. Its my intuition acting up again.

You are not using your optical drive to the fullest, hehehe
WoW, if you buy 2 of the Hitachi 1TB each, you will free up 2 SATA lanes and 2 power cable for more optical drives

@ tropic that's unbelievable. I have two 400 Gb drives one with XP and one with Vista and I don't have over 50 Gb used on either. I have them both backed up on hard drives that are stored out out my machine. I don't think I will be in rush to get any larger.

I'm envious. I just have to wait for a few of my internal drives to die. Then I can install two 500GB hdds and use a Hitachi or two in the external drawers for backups and stuff.

Deathstar assoc. with IBM. Hitachi did a very good job and bring back the image of the company. They are very good in term of reliability and speed. 3 Years warranty. 3 Years of Warranty is plenty. Dont compare to Seagate 5 years because even if your HDD fail after a month, they will not give you a brand new one, they will give you a refurbished one. So 5 years means nothing when the replacement drive is a refurbished.
