Hi everyone,
Its my first time posting on the boards here, so I hope it gets to the correct section. If not, kindly the admin's/mods move it. Thank you.

Here's what I'm using:
Creative MP3 Player 2 64 MB
TDK IDE CD-RW Cyclone 48x/24x/48x
Exact Audio Copy 0.9 Beta
Lame Extractor (for viarable bitrate)

Back a few days ago, I bought Ayumi Hamasaki's new album, "Rainbow". I realised it was a copy control CD. I'm not too sure what protection scheme they used though.

Initially, I tried ripping the tracks out using the MP3 function of Audio Exact Copy, but later on I realised that true enough, the copy control bypassed it. My MP3's literally have no sound when you play them and the file sizes were smaller than expected.

I did some research, and I realised you still can burn them using EAC, but the extraction method will need to be set to "Burst mode".

I managed to get the .wav's and .mp3's out and there was sound. However, now there's a big problem. My ripped MP3's have the sizzling cracking sound that appears for 0.5 secs for every 5-20 seconds of music being playbacked.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? I always rip my CD's onto my MP3 player, and this is a very discouraging step that Avex took. They simply did not consider us, the users using MP3 portables. I have always been a big fan of Ayumi and Avex, but this was really a disappointing moment for me.

If someone can come up with a solution, I'll be most grateful. Thank you so much, everyone.

: )

Check out Upperdog's sticky topic about audio copy protections. It tells you how to check which protection is used, making it for us easier to help you

BTW, copy-protections are not done by the artist's; it's the record companies who implement it. And they usually don't give a f*ck about customers; they only want to make money.

Dear Wannes,
Thanks a lot for replying. Apparently, the last batch of MP3's that I ripped from the Ayumi's CD had the crackling sound. I tried re-extracting each song individually and the crackling sound was gone. However, when I group them up to extract, 1 or more tracks is bound to have that sizzling sound. It's as if the small seconds between each track confused EAC or something. Very weird.

Anyway, I managed to ripped them out, individually, one at a time. Even then, some of my tracks were still screwed. Damn those recording companies.

Edit: For those poor fellas like me who want to ripped their copy control cd in EAC, you can try either burst mode (not so effective) or tweak the settings to secure, whereas disabling the C2 error correction, even if your drive can support it. Extract and those bloody "chik chik" sounds will be gone.

I used ClonyXXL to check my protection, and it says "Dummyfiles".

I think a lot of you already know, but I hope this helps someone.

I am sure this is probably the "worst" method i.e. your extraction wouldn't be very accurate compared to the original (before it was copy protected) but as long as you yourself are happy with your rip operation i guess you are fine
