| Ermmm, I'd like to ask y'all one tricky question and maybe noone knows but heej ... here goes nothing. About securom 4.8xxxx, when u look at the version numbers in the BWA file thread. There are a huge number of different version out there, some with large jump in numbers others not so large. Does anyone know what they've changed in their protection itself to have so much version numbers. Rather technical I know, but maybe blackcheck knows ?! or anyone ?!  We know macrovision changed the weak sector patterns in SD2.xxxx but what did sony do ?!  Lemme know pls ! Greets |

| I think each cd title got it´s unique SecuRom version They change the sector density patterns as you can see in the BWA diagramm. Maybe they fixed some bugs and compatibility probs.. But there aren´t major changes yet. Maybe it becomes when GOTHIC II is out next weekend (29.11.2002).......

| @vaira : You may have a point there, however, in the BWA file thread there are two titles with the same securom version. AND , and now I'm thinking hard on this one , what if a game comes out with 4.83.000.020, and thus like you suggest has its own unique set of twinsectors on the original. Here comes a patch which updates the Securom to 4.83.000.055 ! If it is true what u are saying than this newer version also has its own unique twinsectors which it seeks on verifying. But the cd you bought has twinsectors accordingly with 4.83.000.020 and NOT with 4.83.000.055, so applying the patch would render your original useless ?!?! or am i talking outta my ass now ?! probably but heej, its monday, who thinks on monday !?!?!?!  What IS possible however is that the process of verification is finetuned for those twinsectors .... that could be why some ppl are reporting probs bout their copy working with retail and not after patching ?! (remember me a hitman thread somewhere) Well , my two cents at least ! Greets |

| You are right. Some points of my previous post are just a guesswork........ If an update patch comes out: of course the original patterns on the cd cannot be changed. But the updated execute can verify other sectorranges..(other disc positions) This is maybe an event with which they change the version number only little. So there are same patterns but different verification areas . If they change the patterns too (at an other title of course) they change the number around a larger amount. BTW: The original cd contains no twinsectors!!!! It contains sectors with different densities....

| There are minor updates in each of these versions, most of which are not easily noticeable and range within: - Bug fix - Compatibility issue fix. Also, if you look carefully the securom version number is 3 sets of digits. 4.83.55 4.84.00 the remaining numbers are seperated by a null and only those change from game to game. i.e: as in 4.83.55,00h,<some ascii numbers> I think this confusion is due to hex editors, which normally print nulls with dots. |
