Could you post the complete error log please. Also, you could post a nero infotool output as well. Save as a .txt file and attach using the 'manage attachments' button in the 'go advanced' reply window

Your system is a bit old...have you ever gotten a successful burn from this drive(CD or DVD)? Can this unit play/read CD's or DVD's? Is this an external unit connected through a usb port or card or something else? If external, what type/brand of enclosure do you have? I see a couple things that could be at fault, but answer these questions first please.

hi,

I have been burning successfully with this DVD burner until earlier this week when I restored my pc. This problem has only occurred following re-formatting my machine and re-installing nero. The DVD burner is externally connected using USB2.0.

Could it be a driver issue with the DVD burner?

scotguy, this is from your Nero log:

Physical memory : 126MB (129372kB)
Free physical memory: 0MB (32kB)
Memory in use : 100 %

Make sure you've closed all other programs before burning.

Thanks - will make sure all are closed before burning.

The reason I re-formatted pc was due to pc saying it was low on system memory / It kept freezing etc - which I think was low system memory probs. Not sure what was causing it - possibly memory leak (one of my friends said) - not sure.

I appreciate your advice.

You didn't answer the 'can it play/read cd/dvd's' question.

The 'low memory' was just that...you have the bare minimum recommended for burning dvd's. I would highly recommend more memory..at least 128MB more, if not 256MB more. That is why DirtyRobotFeet's suggested closing programs...a good suggestion. That means no surfing or anything else while burning. You might want to run a spybit program in case there are other progs running in the background as well. You might also want to keep your HDD defragged and you should have at least 5+GB free CONTINUOS space on your HDD for the image to be burned. But since you have been burning before with this config, you must be doing something right.

Now for the next step...do you see the long list of 'installed patches' at the end of your info tool. That is what you no longer have, but probably had before. There are several for USB ports, so try installing those updates and see if that works. repost an infotool readout after you make those installations whether it works or not...you can compare yourself to see what changed as well.

Hi,

I have installed the patches I could locate.

Prior to re-formatting my machine I was burning DVD/CD's with no problems what so ever. This problem has just started occuring since the re-format.

I have tried again to burn (with all progs closed) still did not work.

I also have about 14 gb free on hard drive.

I also have ad-aware spy software installed and have ran this.

Although my pc would freeze due to the memory probs - this never really afected burning media prior to the re-format.

i think it must be something small/silly that is causing this.

Any further suggestions?

I have attached new log and infotool

Any further advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

This morning I have tried to burn 2 files - one worked the other did not.
The first one I ran a simulation first then it burned successfully
The second one failed on the simulation ( I have checked the file with G spot and have played on my pc to ensure it was not corrupted etc)

I now seem to have an intermittent problem

Could it be a buffer problem? I'm stumped.

I have ran all critical & recomended windows update patches etc

Any ideas????

Update Nero, the early releases of version 6 were very buggy (Your log says you have version 6.0.0.20; the current version is 6.6.0.3)

Update your burner's firmware.

You have a very large number of drivers that are being loaded (shown at the end of the Nero log). There could be a conflict with one of these. Do you have any other burning software on your machine? I think some of those drivers are from Easy CD Creator. If so, uninstall it. These drivers cause problems with Nero.

DRF makes excellent suggestions. MS0K firmware is available ...also you never answered what type of enclosure your drive is in..a Liteon or who? If it is not liteon, then you might benefit from going to the manufacturer site and get the latest driver for it as external usb connections can be very difficult. Do you plug your usb unit into an original 1.1 port or a 2.0 card? Even though you may have added the 2.0 driver to 98SE, it only allows 98SE to work with usb2.0 at 1.1 speeds, not 2.0 speed. A usb2.0 PCI card will allow 2.0 speeds.

EXC10, you are using 4th class junk media (Media Code AML 002) according to your Nero logfile, go to this website (I trust it) for media information:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Try finding some real Taiyo Yudens or Verbatims, they are both usually reliable media.
