| @ TTroeger Welcome . You may have a driver conflict somewhere. You will need to post a Nero InfoTool system readout for us. Run the tool and click the diskette icon and save as a .txt file, making sure all 8 boxes are checked. attach to a post using the 'manage attachments' button in the 'go advanced' reply window. |

| Hi, thx for the warm welcome, something must be wrong... I can burn cds but no video DVDs. I tried every version of nero I could find ... nothing works. I am getting desperate... It would be great if someone could help! I attached the readout you asked for @ please PS. Maybe I should add that the NEC drive is external on a USB 2.0 connection. Could it be that there is something wrong with that? - I can read and burn cds though! |

| @ TTroeger Hey, I'm a notebook/usb burner guy too . Thanks for posting the infotool. I don't see anything that is way out of line. I guess I would recommend to try some other burning software first, like dvd decrypter, to see if your burner will burn with other stuff. I am thinking it is a nero thing, but I am not sure why. Nero seems to be so buggy and things like the trouble you are having seem to pop up suddenly and have no resolution. I would like to make sure it is a nero thing before I make any suggestions. I also see you have no system ASPI. Quote:

| Puhhh, I installed the syste. ASPI driver, but that didnt change a thing! I checked if DMA is enabled, the issue with the nvidia codecs.... Every burning program I know including: Nero ( all versions I could find), Cone DVD, Record Now DX and DVD Decrypter wont burn! DVD Decrypter tells me that DeviceIOControl(FSCTL_Lock_Volume)failed!,Unable to lock volume for exclusive access... It seems that there is something with the connection between the burner and the pc wrong..?? If anybody has suggestions I would be very thankful Tom |

| @ TTroeger Just a shot in the dark, but this is where your burn failed Quote:

| @ TTroeger Another area where you could research is your driver. Here's yours Quote:
Quote:
...go figure But it is an interface between the external burner and the laptop at the usb port. It may be something to consider. You do have that driver listed in your infotool output.PS I didn't see any of those other recording softwares listed in your nero infotool output. Some have been known to create conflicts with Nero. |

| So, I changed the booktype in nero - no effect I also tried to get the same USB driver that you have to work, but the device manager tells me that this driver is not part of the proven list... and upgrades to another driver. I tried burning now... same problem it doesnt burn dvds! bah is this problem persistent. I would appreciate more ideas thx Tom Adapter 3 --------- Description : Intel(r) 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 erweiterter Hostcontroller - 24CD Driver Description : System32\DRIVERS\usbehci.sys Company : Microsoft Corporation Version : 5.1.2600.1515 (xpsp2.040410-0905) Description : EHCI eUSB Miniport Driver Attached Devices Description : _NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A USB Device Type : CD-Rom Drive Autorun : On |

| @ TTroeger There are newer firmwares for your NEC. Check the NEC forum here or the NEC site. Updating couldn't hurt at this point....and sometimes they work miracles |

| So I flashed it to 2.17, but 0 effect! One more question: I checked under my IDE 2 controller if DMA is enabled, but it says DMA if available and in the line under it it states that is not active. IDE1 ( primary ) has ultra DMA modus5 enabled Could that be the problem and how do i get my secondary IDE to enable DMA? Tom |
- #11
| There is an article over at overclockers.com that tells how to get out of PIO mode and enable DMA. http://www.overclockers.com/articles1161/ He just deletes the secondary IDE and then tells windows to look for new hardware. It should come back up with dma enabled. You will have all kinds of problems without dma enabled---probably what's going wrong in your setup. |
- #12
| You're a genius man! I would give you a kiss right now if I could- the article described exactly the problem I had and solved it! You cant imagine how much headache this problem caused me over the last days!!!!! thx, thx, thx, thx, thx, thx, thx, Tom |
- #13
| @ TTroeger Hey, glad you found resolution. I am a bit curious, though, as in your infotool output, the second IDE channel states DMA being on, and the TEAC burner as the only item on the channel. Since you are burning with the external usb burner(DMA not applicable) from the HDD on the primary channel, DMA for the second IDE channel should make no difference. Could you look at a new infotool output and see if the drive for your usb burner changed or something else changed if you did the 'IDE channel delete' method of DMA enabling? If it did or didn't, just tell us, no need to post a new output. |

| hello All, I have the same problem . I try to burn a dvd-rw rolling. I use an _NEC dvd_rw nd-2510A usb device from Lacie. I get always this error "reset ..". I have an Notebook from toshiba with celeron 1.5Ghz. For usb2.0 I use a combo PCMCIA card (2*usb2.0 + 2*firewire, Ali chipset). In secondary IDE channel for device 0 i had ultra dma mode 2 and for device 2 device type NONE. Has somebody an idea what to do? I'm really tired with it.... With respect, volk |
