Nero 7 and lightscribe.....

You can run neor 6 and 7 separately if installed in different directories. On my LD 2166D, the Nero 6.x that comes with the LD shows Lightscribe, but no matter what Nero & doesn't. Tried to run the Nero 7 lightscribe host update linked above and kept getting "program error can not continue" on every install attempt, so I guess the only way to use LS is to use the old ver of Nero for it when needed. Seems to me this whole LS thing is just simply not supported when people need help.

The LightScribe problem with Nero 7 Ultra (Nero-7.0.1.2_eng_yt).


By default, the Lightscribe Software shipped with Nero7 Ultra (LightScribe 1.4.30.1) does not correctly identify the HP DVD740 Writer.

There are a number of other LightScribe supported drives that it will not detect as well.

The Solution provided here is not drive specific.

It has been proven to work with the BenQ 1625, Phillips DVDR16LS.

It also works with Nero 6 Demo, which uses the same (LightScribe 1.4.30.1) drivers.

Since no Lightscribe supported drives are detected, LS software does not integrate within Nero 7 correctly.

Notice the LS Icon next to Print (not).

The solution provided by Nero (which has not worked on the above mentioned drives) is here.

This was not a working solution for any drives mentioned above.

The MSI will not complete, {Product: LS_HSI -- Internal Error 2723. updateShellCmdMustBeSet}


Here is a solution to this issue.

Download this file SP31006.exe from HP (Owner of Lightscribe).

Save this file in (or copy to) “C:\Program Files\Common Files”.

The only way I found to fix the LightScribe Software requires a Safe Mode Boot with Administrative Rights.

Prior to Rebooting into Safe Mode, one might consider contacting their system administrator.

Reboot to Safe Mode (F8) at beginning of windows startup.

Choose “Safe Mode” the top one.

With Windows Explorer, Navigate to "C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe\LS_HSI.msi"

Right Click “LS_HSI.msi"

Uninstall

Give it at a couple of seconds to complete. There is no confirmation of completion.

Delete Folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\LightScribe”

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Reboot Windows to a Normal Startup and logon with an administrative account.

Make sure Nero Burning Rom and/or Nero Start Smart are not running via Task Manager.

To access Windows Task Manager, Right Click on your Taskbar at the bottom of your desktop screen.

If either is running, check both under the Applications and Processes Tabs, Click “End Process”

If you are using a 3rd Party Process Manager it is recommended to “Suspend” before “End” or “Kill”.

Right Click on the file “C:\Program Files\Common Files\ SP31006.exe”

Install, give it a couple of seconds to complete. There is no confirmation of completion.

That’s it; you have successfully updated your Lightscribe software.





Now all you have to do is update Nero7.

Clicking on the “Help “button” About LightScribe does this




There are other issues with Nero/LightScribe such as lack of support literature, support desk and product upgrades that work.

It would be nice to have such an Icon to know if LS is really installed.
However, this is what it really looks like, whether LS is installed or not.



There are a number of other issues within Nero 7 Ultra that I don’t care to mention until I have a fix for them.

This is absurd. nero should fix this immediately. I have no such problem in Roxio 8 or Sonic Recordnow 7.3. Why only in Roxio 7?

Has anyone ask "NERO" why Lightscribe is not working?
No fun to have something you can't use.
I have a LG and exactly the same problem as everybody else.
Whom can help us to make "LightScribe" working?

Fix for LightScribe \ (Nero-7.0.1.2_eng) & (Nero-7.0.1.4_eng).

For Microsoft Windows XP only.

By default (sometimes), the Lightscribe Software shipped with Nero7 Ultra (LightScribe 1.4.30.1) does not correctly identify some DVD Writers that are LightScribe ready.

Download this file SP31006.exe from HP.

yes, and still no go. Guess I'll just have to use Record Now or Roxio 8 where it does work. Again, why can't nero issue a patch to get this working?

Also there is a even newer version on the NEro site, of lightscribe than the HP one from above and that one doesn't register with Nero 7 either. I give up.

I'll d/l it, but now mention of lightscribe support in the release notes or change log.

Nero Ultra 7.0.1.4 LightScribe Issue

Browse to: Services
Check "Hide All Microsoft Services"
Enable: LightScribeService Direct Disc Labeling Service
ReStart
LightScribe should now appear in Nero

Mine was already enabled and started. Still no lightscribe in Nero with the LG. I have submitted a case with Nero, but quite frankly it is like talking to a wall.

I just joind this forum with the intention to solve my problems with my new Samsung Lightscribe burner and Nero...........

It's "good" to see I'm not the only one.
I installed Nero 6.6.0.16, updated to 6.6.018 and it's having problems with the parameters. Also, it does not recognise any drive with Lightscribe. The same problem appears when I'm trying to make a lable with SureThing CD Labeler.

I'v updated the firmware and the lightscribe driver, no result.

Tried to install Nero7, with coverdesigner 2, but that version didn't even show the possibilty to make Lightscribe labels (wich 6.6.018 does!).
I thinks it's also strange that at nero.com they say lightscribe only works on Nero 6.6.08...and later, while the Samsung OEM setup gives the 6.6.016 version. I think that at Nero they also don't know it

Working on it for 5 days now, no/less info on the Internet.....
I'm almost at the point of returning the burner...

Just hope that someone can give me and the others any (other!) hint.....

Eventhough this is one of my first posts here, I love this forum. Lots of interesting stuff here. Staying registered here, that's for sure!!

I'm not sure what I did, but my HP 740i Lightscribe worked fine the first time I started using it with Nero 7 Ultra.
Let me ge through this to see what I did.....
Installed hardware.
Turned on pc.
Inserted Original Disk (it contained Nero 6 Express, I didn't want it, so I just installed the lightscribe driver)
I was prompted immediately to update my Lightscribe driver, and I did to Version 1.4.56.1.
Restarted my PC and have been printing Lightscribe CDs and DVDs ever since.

I gues I just got lucky?

It just doesn't recognize the LG model that I have. Still don't know why it does in some cd burning programs but not NEro 7.

Hope its not too late to add to this, had the problem over the weekend and did and tried every thing sugested above with no luck, version using was Nero 7 Ulta 7.0.1.4b with the latest L-H driver also tried 7.0.1.2 no luck. This began to get up my wit as I only got the philips DVDr16lsk/35 on Sunday. On monday on the way home sitting in traffic I thought wat the hell I buy my self a copy of Nero Premium (version in box was 7.0.0.0). Uninstalled Ultra installed premium Guess what it wored. LIGHTSCRIBE ACTUALY WORKS!. Uninsalled and insalled Nero 7.0.1.4b but used key from premium all is well as well. The only difference is the Key one starts with 5C (no luck) the other 1C (works). I will say the problem is something to do with the serial numbers.

Why not start a tread on serial numbers (not give them out) but list the first 4 digits and say weather it works or not a partten might show up.

I've changed the 5C... to 1C... serial number in the registry entry and now is absolutely fine !! Works 100 %%%% !!!!!

Get the 1C... serial as soon as you can !!

Confirmed by a french user on another forum, the "5C" license key doesn't provide LightScribe functionnality...

"1c" serial is the trick...lightscribe is now working.

Installed a new BenQ yesterday on my PC which had Nero 7 Premium 7.0.1.5 already on it with a 1C serial.No lightscribe appeared in Cover Designer.

I uninstalled 7 Premium and installed Nero Express from the BenQ CD.Lightscribe was then present in Cover Designer.

Now reinstalling 7 Premium uninstalled Express and now 7 has the lightscribe function.
