Microsoft Office 2019 now available for Windows and Mac, older Windows versions not supported

Microsoft today officially released Office 2019 for Windows and Mac. New versions of text editor Word and presentation software PowerPoint contain features that could previously also be found in Office 365. The office suite with, amongst others, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook can only be used with Windows 10, older Windows versions are no longer supported.

The Windows version of Office 2019 also includes Access, Project, Publisher and Visio.

Microsoft has added new features to the applications, such as dark mode, speech recognition and a feature that reads text aloud. In Excel, it's also possible to create timelines and Outlook has a feature called Focused Inbox that only shows important messages. The email client now also supports mentions.

Although Microsoft mainly focused on Office 365, the cloud based version of Office, the company still wants to offer the regular Office version for companies that are not ready to move to the cloud.

Users with an Office license can purchase Office 2019 from today, for other customers the software becomes available in the coming weeks. With the release of Office 2019, Microsoft will no longer add new features to Office 2016. The software will continue to receive security updates.
