Well, after updated to 6.6.0.18, SmartStart disappeared from the Nero program group... Can NERO they do any update that works how it is supposed to?

Not that I use it much, but it seems a bug to me. Let's see how the first burn goes!

OEM versions of Nero 6.6, including some of the more "complete" versions, might not have StartSmart in your program group, but you can add it manually by adding a shortcut to the program in your Program Files folder.

The changelog above pertains to ver 6.6.0.16 NOT to 6.6.0.18 - check the "all recorded changelogs" section of the site you are referring to.

Founds this in cdrlab forum, thought you might get a laugh.

"I tried running the Nero 7 cleantool (version dated 11/18/05) on an installation of Nero 7.0, retail box version (WinXP, SP2) and I received the following message

"The Nero Generial CleanTool has detected some Nero applications which are not supporte by this version.

In order to avoid damaging your system the application will be closed now"

I don't wish to be rude, but can Ahead please at least get SOMETHING to function fully and correctly.

How does Ahead deal with OEM versions and updating them ?? Is it possible ?? We bought some burners for work and they came with the OEM suite. Burning ROM is v6.6.0.13c. Can I update this to 6.6.0.18 ?? Their "update" page says there are no updates currently available....

It is strange that version 6.6.0.18 is not listed here:

no it's not. Nero releases went down the hill since version 4 - they got into the corporate bullshit market, adding crappy features noone wants, forgetting the quality that once was associated with their name. it's typical really, most of sucessfull companies end up like that - putting out release after release, adding more of useless features, not solving any bugs, and completely ignoring the customer.

30mb update? oh please.

Actually the "updates" are not just updates - they are the FULL distribution.

Regarding the quality of Nero, I'd say that Nero Burning ROM, CD-DVD Speed, and Drive Speed are pretty good, but the other programs are not so good.

Nero Recode and NeroVision Express are just about the most bug-ridden and unstable applications I have on my pc; they are almost, but not entirely, unusable. I have had almost every 6.3 and 6.6 version installed, and these two applications haven't really improved at all.

That's a shame, for me it and Nero Express are two of the most used and most usefull apps on my rig.
