LG super multi won't complete burn?

I have a LG Super Multi External DVD burner which is brand new. I'm running it off a compaq presario V2000 which has a Pentium M 1.6.

When i bought the burner it wouldn't complete a burn, it would get to a point in the burn process (different every time) and the "used read buffer" would drop to "0" then climb back up to "100" and from there on in the timer would keep ticking but the burn process would seize. The guy from the shop said it was the RAM i was using so i upgraded and now have the 256 DDR that came with the computer plus an additional 1gig of Kingston DDR RAM. After installing the RAM i did a couple of test burns in the shop and it completed both times if i burnt at half speed (4x) any higher and i'd have the same problem?

Now i've got it home and i'm trying to copy a disc with Nero 6.3.1.6 and i'm having the same problem at all speeds, even the lowest possble (1x) I'm using Philips DVD+R 4.7gb 120min 1-8x speed discs and i'm having the same problem? I waited for about 15-20mins i think and it was just stuck at 31% after the "used read buffer" returned to "100" after that i had to abort the burn.. 10 discs in the rubbish and it's proving to be a real problem!

Thanks in advance to anyone that spends the time trying to help.. it's much appreciated!

Re: LG super multi won't complete burn?

You need to update nero. 6.6.14
Do a burst rate test in test Nero cd speed for the external drive and repot back.
How much spare HDD space do you have?
Is the drive defraged frequently?
Are you doing anything else in the background whilst you burn?
From your description of only being able to get complete burns at X4 there is a bottleneck somewhere in the system.
Regards.
PS. Welcome to the club.
