Hi,

I've never had problem burning any dvd R disc, + or - of any of probably half a dozen brands I've used, but I'm getting nothing but ruined discs with the new DVDs, from a couple different brands, that I've been trying lately. I noticed on the plastic around the spindle hole that the old sony discs I was using which burned fine say ver. 1.2, 8x while the new ones that don't work say ver. 1.3, 16x and wonder if that could be anything to do with it?
Nero seems to finish the burn but then prints

"internal target failure"
"could not perform end of disc at once"

I've tried some of the older blank discs from various brands that I had lying around which I've tried since have burned fine. I also tried burning at 2.4x speed with a newer disc and that didn't work either.

I've updated nero and my firmware. My computer specs and a Nero log from a failed session are below. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks! -HH

Hi honesthans, welcome to the forum!

Your Pioneer 106D is an older 4x DVD burner that can burn 4x and 8x media at up to 4x speed, but it doesn't have any firmware support for burning 16x media, and that's why your burns on 16x media are failing.

It may be time to get a newer burner, or if you don't want to do that, you should look for some older 4x or 8x media.

DM,

Thanks for the help.

I found a good price on a couple 100 spindles of good 8x over the internet that ought to hold me over till I'm ready for a new drive.

All the same, it's irritating to have to toss out a working drive just because the media has gotten a little faster. Is there maybe a hacked firmware that would recognize the faster discs or some other workaround someone here could suggest.

Thanks again -HH

I can't help you there as I don't have much experience with Pioneer DVD burners.

I suggest you just hold on to your 16x media until you get a newer burner at some point.
