When Nero asks for a filename for the image, click on the "Save as type" dropdown and select ISO.

Yes, of course as stated above, but an ISO image must be a single track, not a multitrack audio disc for example.

What type of compilation are you making? For some types, Nero will only create an NRG. For other types, it will create either. For example, if the compilation type is CD-ROM, an ISO or NRG can be created.

What I was trying to do was copy a CD image to HD. (Data CD). So I selected the Image Recorder and then Copy CD. This was the only way I could figure out to make an ISO image from a CD.

I fiddled with the Read Options Tab (Fast Copy settings was set to Video CD) and tried Data CD but still it only lists .NRG.

Select image recorder. Then a new CD-ROM compilation. Drag the data drom the CD to the compilation window. When you "burn" it will ask for a file name and you can choose ISO from the dropdown.

Yes, Nero Image Recorder can make ISO images. Nero's preferences do not allow you to specify default parameters that are critical to ISO images . Do it this way to fix Nero Express and Nero Burning ROM:

- Start Nero Burning ROM
- Select FILE, NEW
- Select a CD compilation (in Nero 7 this is a picture of a CD in the upper left corner)
- Below that select you want to create a "CD-ROM (ISO)
- Select the TAB labeled ISO
- Set Data Mode to "Mode 1"
- Set Filesystem to "ISO 9660 + Joliet"
- Set File Name Length to "Max of 31 characters"
- Set Character set to ISO 9660
- Under RELAX RESTRICTIONS, uncheck (DO NOT SELECT) "Allow path depth of more than 8 directories"

The problem you are seeing is if you relax the ISO restrictions on the path depth (which is unique to NERO filetype .NRG), then you cannot burn an ISO image and therefore you will only be presented with the option to burn filetype .NRG.

Now I'm guessing ... because you want these selections to hold for all images you burn using Image Recorder, and the idiots at Nero do not allow you to set these as defaults for all images you burn. What I have found, it seems to work, is that Nero remembers what you did when you burned your last image and default to it again. So:

- At the bottom of this New Compilation window, click "NEW"
- Add a junk file (whatever you having around) to this dummy image we're going to create (find a .txt file or something)
- Select to BURN this as an image (on Nero 7 it is RECORDER, BURN COMPILATION)
- When the window "Burn Compilation" pops up, push the button at the bottom "BURN"
- Now filetype .ISO is available.

What I have found is that from now on, when I burn an image using Nero Express or Nero Burning ROM, Nero seems to remember these settings, and I am always allowed to select creating an image of filetype .ISO.

So now, how hard would it have been for the Germans to allow us to set our default preferences, rather than have to find a way to get around their poor design?

He's new. It happens.

CD Freaks should write an auto-lock script to close any threads that have not been updated in 90 days or more.

I don't think so. I can think of some threads I wouldn't want to be automatically locked after a certain amount of idle time.

You could program an "Exceptions" list, and threads can always be re-opened by mods.

But hey, it's just a fantasy wish.

Why on earth would you want to delete stuff like this? Not only did I get an answer, but I found a nice site that I might participate in from now on.

Welcome to CDFreaks, beren!
(Say Hi to Luthien! )

If I understand your question correctly, you're wondering why anyone would want to delete old threads?

That's not what was being proposed here, but rather that old threads be locked so that new posts can't be added.

This isn't the right place to discuss forum changes, however. For that we have this forum:

CD Freaks Forum Talk

We also have a Newbie Forum that might interest you, with an Introduce yourself: Say hi ! thread for saying hello!

The Reason you keep treads alive is that some time they have inconsistencies. i.e. this tread was the first hit on a google search on creating ISO with nero. Unfortunately the above is correct if your creating a new compilation.

If your trying to create a backup ISO image of an existing CD see,
http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=245

the Example uses Nero 5.x.x but it works with Nero 7 also.
Click Recorder | Save Track...
Select your CD reading device from the list click OK
Pick ISO Image file(*.iso) from Output file format
Click Browse for Path and select the location and file name to save the ISO as.
Click the GO button.
It will create the ISO and once it is done it will return to the last screen.

the above is copy and Paste from the fore mentioned link.

I faced this problem today. Following is one way i could resolve this:

1. Using Nero StartSmart, open 'Copy and Backup > Burn Image to disc'
2. Select the recorder as 'Image Recorder' [CD or DVD]
3. Select Data > Data Disc [or any other disc you want]
4. Add files using 'Add' in Nero Express screen, and then select 'Next'.
5. Select 'Burn' in 'Final Burn Settings'.
6. In the window that appears next, [Save Image File window], select the ISO file type.

Hope this helps.

See link below which indicates ...

[Click File Menu | Extras | Save Tracks. It will auto read the CD and determine how it is built. For Example a Windows XP3 with SP3 slipstreamed CD, bootable, is read as a "1 Track, 67:03:63 (590MB)".]

Idiot. I hate these illogical morons. A thread is 18 months old so it can't be relevant anymore? I'm thankful for helpful info regardless of when the thread was created. That's why we have the Internet. It sticks around. It doesn't expire like a carton of milk.
