Opera adds free VPN to mobile browser app

Opera has added a free VPN service to its mobile browser app that has been installed more than 10 million times. This way users don't need an additional app to change their location to e.g. access content from other countries.

With the VPN it's possible to surf the web with an additional layer of security and privacy. It can also be used to pretend to be in another location to bypass region blocks.

Previously, Opera offered a separate VPN app, but the company has removed this now. The technology of the VPN is based on that of SurfEasy, a company that Opera acquired in 2015.

Besides the VPN, Opera also has other privacy-friendly features such as built-in adblocker.

For now the free VPN service is only available in the beta version of Opera for Android. Whether the free VPN also comes to iOS and when the VPN ends up in the final version of Opera for Android is unknown.
