| Zero Used Space & Zero Free Space Hi! All..I'm new here and I posted this in the Newbie forum before I saw this place...so here it is and I hope that someone can help... I'm stumped! From time to time (can't figure out what the trigger is), the cd writer shows a new, blank disk to have Zero Used Space & Zero Free Space. The burner will read already written disks just fine but won't report a fresh disk with any usable space. The drive is a (Buslink) "LiteOn LTR-12101b". I have flashed the latest firmware...no change. I've tried different branded media...no change...I'll burn a few disks no problem, then it's back to reading zero space on a fresh disk. Anybody have a clue? BTW I'm running Win2k pro and the installed burner proggie is EZCD platinum 5.01. So, I ended the DirectCD process...no change. Still stumped... |

| This is normal as the TOC is not currently wriiten to the disc If you want to check the total space of the CD, you may read the ATIP by downloading "Smart-Burn Media Check Simulator" by going to the Lite-On's website. Website: http://www.liteonit.com.tw/

| This is NOT normal on a new blank disc. CD Creator's CD Information function is supposed to give you accurate information about type (CD, CDR, CDRW) of media, sessions seen, and available space. That's its purpose. (Same as Media Info in Nero) Also, when Creator does this, burning the disc will almost always result in a coaster (I've been lucky, a reboot has always fixed this when it happens to me. Of course, when Creator gave such a report, so did Nero, and both made coasters) Nitpick: Why do they call them coasters? There's a big hole in the middle, they make lousy coasters! |

| Yes, dentman42, I have to agree with that. But it's normal that Windows Explorer reports 0 byte free space and 0 byte used space.

| Tell me if I'm right, 1.) You burned a VCD using a burning program. 2.) After it finish, you tries to read it using an other CD-ROM drive/drive. 3.) The disc contains nothing. Well, if I am right, make sure Simulation/Test Mode is off, or else you are just testing to see if burning is successful or not. And if that doesn't work, does other CD-ROM drives read it?

| Hi...softwareguy - the q&a... "Tell me if I'm right, 1.) You burned a VCD using a burning program." Yes...VCDeasy "2.) After it finish, you tries to read it using an other CD-ROM drive/drive." Yes... "3.) The disc contains nothing." No...the disc is a perfect vcd burn and is readable in a dvd drive. as well as reportable property sheet in Explorer. The same cd that got read flashing red by Smartburn & reported as zero dadada, when set aside snd reinserted when whatever sorts itself out, is read and burned successfully. The evil process then starts all over again with next fresh cd insertion. If this is a hardware related problem...is there anything to be done aside from replacing the drive? |
