Can anyone check the EEPROM of an 812s? I did the RPCDE to my EEPROM and have the blinking amber light...

Just thought that I'd post this for the sake of reference. There is a quick (and fairly easy & painless) way to work around the problem of a damaged EEPROM checksum.

See this thread...

Thanks to nicw, I'm going again. I fried my SOHW - 812S EEPROM with RPCD2. He was able to tell me the correct checksum ($81 in my case).

Man, that's expensive. You could almost replace the drive for that. [ducking]

Hey, I´m sure nicw didn´t charge him 81$ (money). "81" was the value of the "checksum"...

Read this thread and you will find out what I´m talking about.

Yep, you might be right. But to remove any doubt it´s better to clarify...

Help!

I've read this topic but I've never done any of this stuff with a DVD writer before. I just want rid of any region dependancy. My old drive didn't need such things but when I installed my Lite-On it asked for it immediately. I attempted to change it but only have 4 attempts allowed and there is no region 00 option.

I'd follow your instructions but don't fully understand and don't wanna risk losing the drive considering I bought it less than 2 hours ago.

According to the system info, it is a:

Lite-On DVDRW LDW-851S

Its a +/- writer

Can anyone advise me on making this region free safely?

Thanks for your time.

Press the Disable button in LtnRPC, then install DVD Region Killer.
