Hi,
this drive is on sale at a local store (Media Markt, Germany). I did not find very much information about that on the web, except some data a UK based store provided: http://www.tekheads.co.uk/s/product?product=605412
Also, nothing could be found on Sonys websites (indicating: No support - Do not buy). I suspect, that this might be some OEM-only drive which is also indicated by another posting here, the autor wrote, that this drive was part of his Medion computer.
Might this drive be a Liteon SHM- based drive? Further information is appreciated.
Thanks to all,
Michael

According to Codeguys site (http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html), under 6th Generation Standard - (6S), Sony DW-Q120A is a rebadgeted Liteon SHW-160P6S or a SHW-165P6S.Quote:Originally Posted by mciahelHi,

According to http://www.cdr.cz/dvd_rekordery/sony/dwg120a.html, the Sony DW-Q120A is a Liteon SHW-165P6S.
The difference between SHW-165P6S and 160P6S is that the latter didn't successfully passed the factory tests to read/write DVD-RAM.__________________

Hi,
I see. Seems, as if DW-Q120A were SHW-160P6S (no DVD RAM), and DW-G120A is SHW-165P6S (DVD RAM support).Quote:Originally Posted by Gordon BanksAccording to Codeguys site (http://codeguys.rpc1.org/dvdrw_overview.html), under 6th Generation Standard - (6S), Sony DW-Q120A is a rebadgeted Liteon SHW-160P6S or a SHW-165P6S.

The drive is advertized to support DVD-RAM, so I would trust the codeguys more.
Thank you both,

I've bought DW-G120A already. Installed it (as a slave) on a PC with P-4 2.8 GHz, Asus Mobo with Intel's 865 chipset, WD Raptor 34 GB HDD (about 14 GB free), Win2k SP4, and Nero 7 software. Used it with HP 8x DVD+R to record DivX movies (data DVD mode). Nero estimated approx 8 min recording time but actually it took more than 40. Tried a few times - same speed. Moved the drive to different PC (with 875 chipset, Seagate 160GB HDD - ~40 GB free, other specs are the same). Works fine. Put it back - slow again.
Does anyone have any idea about the reason? -

Hi,
this might be a DMA issue. Please check, if DMA is enabled for that drive using Nero Info Tool.Quote:Originally Posted by ykagan00I've bought DW-G120A already. (...) Put it back - slow again.

If this is the case, how do I enable DMA in Win2k? Device Manager-Properties don't mention anything about DMA and I saw nothing in Computer Management - Storage - Disk Management.
Go to My Computer, Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI (double clicking), select (double clicking) the IDE port where your burner is attached to, select Advanced Configurations and check if "DMA if available" is highlighted in Transfer Mode.__________________
