Slimtype SSW-8015S Read/playback problems

I have an Averatec 7100 series, with a lovely Slimtype SSW-8015S DVDRW that doesn't like to work very well. It burns CDs perfectly fine, albeit extremely slow, and I've never had the chance to burn a DVD. But I'm assuming the write problem will probably be fixed with the read problem. So the main problem is: when I put a DVD or a CD into my drive, my computer lags down. The drive seems to spin up to a much faster speed than it used to, and the rest of my computer bogs down. The music skips often, the movies slow and also skip. Data disks have the same effect with transferring information. I've been searching through forums up and down for help on this subject. A nice example of my problem is the fact that my drive used to rip my cds to mp3 around 14 - 15x, now I'm lucky for anything above 1.1x.

Hi guys, sorry you didn't get a reply sooner feorge, but the solution to this problem should be very simple. From your log:

Maybe this applies to you as well Matthias? For region free firmware you can use LtnRPC (it's in the Lite-On tools collection at the top of this Forum). I don't know if it will work with your slim drive, but you can try.

I also use the Averatec 7100 Series and I am finding the same problem with the Slimtype SSW-8015S DVDRW drive. If I ever try to run an audio or video off the disk, my computer bogs down and the audio and video become slow and jumpy, I tried doing what you posted earlier and have not seen a change in the video or audio.

someone said that if you feed it a bad disk, and that it try's to read it 6 times, it reverts to PIO mode.

so you prob didn't actually do it.

also when this happens, make sure you dont have the nVidia Ide drivers installed, use the basic microsft.

also if havin hose problems, check the AnyDVD, and ClonDVD pages in the forum for bad filters list.
