Nope, it's been tried. If you force it to 12x, the drive does funny things.

You just don't take no for an answer, don't you?

It's been a long time, so CK, correct me if I'm remembering wrong...

- setting speed to 12x: drive reads erratically, and from the very start, it is speeding up and down in very small regular intervals... the overall end result is a very slow and bumpy overall read, slower than 8x (setting to 8x reads smoothly)

- setting speed to 12x by forcing the drive to recognize recordable media as pressed media (which as you may imagine carries with it a ton of other side effects, but for the sake of trying it, we tried it): the drive reads smoothly until about 10x where it just craps out

Are there any available tools or firmware to fix the single flashing
green LED color to the better 3 color code one?

I have tried Omnipatchrer but nothing there that I can
see to fix the LED.

Welcome to cdfreaks

What drive model are you using?

@C0deKing
he wrote "OmniPatcher (v2.2.2) LED Color Fix for 1693S ??". i think he has a 1693s.

@rickb
the 1673s/93s has a green led only. ledfix isn't available for your drive.

Thanks chok0. I missed that

rickb, we can't give you multi colors because the drive doesn't have the hardware to do it, but we might have something else for you in the near future

Thank you so much for your replies.
I didn't know the 1693S had a single color LED.

Oh well..... Will there ever be any firmware available for any 3 color LED MODs, let's say for example, putting the 3 color LED from an older drive on the 1693s drive???

Or a 3 color Blue led mod like DiggnSaeg mentioned?

@rickb
it shouldn't be difficult to replace the led but i wouldn't risk it.

c0deking is working on a led-tool for the 1673/93s. you will probably be able to select solid/flashing light for reading/writing and the flash speed.

New version: 2.3.0

Changelog:
Code:
2.3.0 (25 Jun 2005)
	* Added: Experimental write strategy reassignment support for slimtype drives.
	* Added: LED blink options for 1673S and newer drives.
	* Fixed: The read speed patch is now available for the PDS6 firmware.
	* Fixed: Removed the faulty 10x option for DVD±R9 read speeds (10x for pressed DVD-DL is still available).
	* Fixed: Resolved a few small potential bugs related to media support.
	* Changed: Refined the way certain firmware revisions are displayed in the status area above the command buttons.
	* Changed: Slightly changed how the default save name is constructed.
	* Other: Improved some inefficient code to slightly improve OmniPatcher's load and save times.
	* Other: Updated the internal list of OEM rebadges.
Finally implemented strategy switching for slimtype drives. Unfortunately, I don't have a slimtype drive to test with, hence the "experimental" label. If you have a slimtype drive and won't mind spending a few minutes trying out a few simple things, please drop me an e-mail or a PM.

The first post has been updated accordingly.

The LED-Fix tool has been scraped and instead, all of the patches have been incorporated into OmniPatcher (see the 1673S/1693S LED-Fix patch in this latest release ). As code65536 says, it wouldn't be an OmniPatcher if we didn't have the one patching tool

I have a Sony 710-UL and I have applied the OP LED fix - but now the LED just stays green regardless of what the drive is doing. So the fix has done something.... but no other colours - is this due to the fact it is external drive? (I have it connected via Firewire)

It will only be red when you burn media (CD or DVD). Is this not the case?

Nope - firmly stays solid green - tried buring a DVD & reading DVD & CD - no flashing, nada!! I know that this is a tiny wee small point - I was more wondering if some how I managed to do something wrong!!

Nope, you did nothing wrong. If it is a solid green, then you were successful in applying the patch and flashing the firmware.

It is possible that the red LED was removed in some of the later 1653S/710A units. You say that this was an external unit? Maybe they didn't bother to put in the second LED into the external drives. Right now, that's the only explanation that I can come up with.

The work on these drives is phenominal. I had to get another Liteon just so I could get in on all the fun. Much thanks to all you guys and for all the work. Liteon owes you a lot, as do we all.

BTW, I finally found a drive with blue lights. Buy the Philips 1640 (BenQ 1620) and you will get the wildest light show ever seen on a drive.

is it possible to remove unneccessary media codes from CS0P so there will be more space for changes in the -R table?
