Have you changed any details of the reading speed patch or does the dip at 12x (with the 12x or higher patch) still occur with +R media?

I've had the suspicion that there may be more than one location that's involved in this mod, and you're only getting part of it (just a hunch- no substantiation).

New version: 2.0.1

Code:
2.0.1 (13 June 2005)
	* Added: An "Extended Commands" button in the media tab. This will bring up a menu of additional commands: load media settings from a media report and undoing name/speed changes to a media code.
	* Improved: Slightly mitigated the GUI refresh lag when loading a new firmware.
	* Fixed: To work around a quirk with how Windows re-draws text boxes, the media info box is no longer set to read-only on Windows 2000 and earlier.
	* Fixed: Minor problem with 51S firmwares being misclassified as 1S and not 2S firmwares when applying recommended tweaks.
	* Fixed: Minor wording correction in the tweaks message box.
	* Fixed: [v2.0.1.1] Improved the determination of current read speeds when loading firmwares that have been previously patched with OmniPatcher 1.x.
	* Fixed: [v2.0.1.3] Better, less restrictive handling of firmwares that have non-Unicode +R entries that use 9-bit speed encoding.
	* Other: Updated documentation.
Not a very exciting update (then again, compared to 2.0.0, it's hard for any other update to be exciting ). Users of 2.0.0 don't need to update to 2.0.1. This version just addresses some of the issues/requests brought up earlier in this thread (namely, a workaround for the media info box display corruption and a way to load changes from a media report into a firmware).

The first post has been updated accordingly.

If there was a problem before, there will still be a problem now. Although the way the patch is implemented has changed, the patch code, in the end, still does the same thing as before. As for the second part of your query, I think it's best if I let CK field that one, as I haven't put my drive through a full read speed graphs for some months now (I usually stop half-way through after seeing that it started at the right speed ).

The dip in the read speed has nothing to do with the increase read speed patch other than it allows the drive to reach a speed that displays the problem. It's a bug in the 1653S firmwares +R read routine (1673S and 1693S work okay). It only happens when +R reaches 12x and comes right after 13x. All other media types don't exhibit the problem. Unfortunately it's unlikely that Liteon will ever fix the problem because in normal use they would never see it and to be honest, I wouldn't really know where to start looking for it, but I may give it a go at some stage

C0deKing, I'm a noob.. Having said that, do I need to reflash my original KY01 with option to enable faster read speed (~riplock)? My spec has read at 16x for DVD+-R so I'm not sure if this is necessary?

Thanks

Yes you do. That read speed rating is only for DVD-ROM, which you probably seldom use in your drive. The rest of the media read speeds are 8x or slower. Just load you KY01 firmware into OP to see what it currently is

Thank you about your work.
Doe's new OmniPatcher support change strategy in DVD-R media.
I tried with CSOP firmware (cf-ledfix version) and didn't work .
Am I doing something wrong ?

Props to CodeGuys for all the work they have done on this wonderful tool .....

I see that you have quite a few (if not all) drive IDs (832S series, anyway), including the one for my HP 530r, which saves me a lot of trouble of manually editing the drive strings myself. (Now if only hp didn't use some special type of LED sequence in the original VPS8 firmware I would be able to try out the ledfix function on it for fun.........) Everything is good for me otherwise

You guys deserve some sort of medal or reward for all you do ......or at least a seat at Lite-On or something

We hope it's all. There are probably still a few gaps in the list that OP2 uses, especially in the new 93S category. If anyone ever finds a drive to add to the list, let us know!

New version: 2.1.0

Changelog:
Code:
2.1.0 (14 June 2005)
	* Added: The ability to rename a media code using a media code block import, like in MCSE.
	* Improved: The read speed and disable learning patches are now available for slimtype drives.
	* Changed: The button to save a media report has been removed; the function is now a part of the "More Commands" button, which has been moved to take its place.
	* Other: Updated the internal list of OEM rebadges.
Okay, finally ticked off the last items on the OP checklist. *goes back to catching up from the absence*

The first post has been updated accordingly.

Hello, codeguys! First af all - thanks a lot for OP v2!!! It's just GREAT!

But there's one thing i can't understand: chosing different read speeds is cool, but why are there separate options for "DVD-DL" and "DVD+-R9"? AFAIR DVD-DL == DVD-R9...

Great works boys!

I don't know why, maybe it was because most of the boys went to B&Q or NEC, but last month I didn't have that special Lite-on feeling.

But then, out of nowhere, this!

Thanks a lot, friday my two weeks holiday start, and when I am lying in the sand with my love, I can feel that special Lite-on / cdrfreaks feeling!

;-)

DVD-DL is pressed DL media, usually DVD movies. The DVD+-R9 is the media you can burn once

@mauricetgol
I've been there myself, but there is always some ray of sunshine that will lift your spirits (mine came from kind members comments and the offer of a drive). I'm glad to hear yours was OP. I hope you and your good lady have a wonderful holiday . Who knows what you might find here, when you come back

Is it possible to make an option to next version of OP,for selection how many change strategies can max. do with it's firmware ability,in total of each media type meet each need ?

My problem is about CS0P and not ability change DVD-R media strategies ,because OP bank gone full, from long code of firmware.

In my case only need change 7 strategies for DVD+R media and 5 for DVD-R media-It's a bad for me don't devide ability of changes about each need .
I hope it's easy do that "C0deKing"...

If it was possible to use space from the +R bank for -R, then it would be possible to use space from any of the other banks (there are 16 total), and believe me, there's still plenty left in the rest. The problem is, using space from a another bank is possible, but it is complicated. In order to do strategy switching, OP needs to do three things: it must first patch the media lookup loops so that it could hook into them (no space needed for this). It must then add a new strategy reassignment function to the firmware (this requires space) and it must leave some space for the strategy reassignment table. It is possible to move both the reassignment table and part of the reassignment function to another bank, but, as I just noted, there is a part of the reassignment code that cannot be moved out of the -R bank. For 1S and 2S firmwares, the entire reassignment function can be moved. But the 3S reassignment is much more complicated, with multiple entry and exit points, and thus there is some amount of overhead in the reassignment code that exists and must remain in the original bank. I estimate that around 24 bytes of the reassignment code cannot be moved. Unfortunately, we have only 16 bytes free in CS0P. So it's impossible; there simply isn't the space to even use space from another bank.

The problem isn't the reassignment table (which requires only 2 bytes per assignment), but code needed to read the table and to perform the reassignment (which, unless you have more than 30 reassignments per bank, will take up the majority of the space that gets used)

In contrast, for virtually all other firmwares, there are well over 240 bytes--an order of magnitude more free space than CS0P--to work with (which would leave 182 bytes for the strategy table--enough for 91 reassignments).

This space problem may get better with a newer firmware. CS0P is not the first firmware to suffer from this problem. The previous two were US0J and TS0C, and in both cases, newer firmwares had more space. In the meantime, if you really need to change -R strategies for CS0P, you can use the renaming feature to swap strategies.

will this new program/patch help with the Sony DW22A drive? I'm starting to lose hope for this drive as it takes 5 minutes for the drive to recognize a blank dvd and Nero gives me errors before it starts to burn.

@ilovelucy

Before resorting to firmware flashes, you may wish to investigate other possible sources of problems. Check DMA settings, etc. There is a link to a general troubleshooting guide in the LiteOn FAQ stickied at the top of the forum. If that doesn't help, then please start a new thread about this problem (if you click on the announcements at the top of the forum--the one about a survey--and you scroll past the survey junk, you'll get to the posting guidelines for this forum, which will contain some tips on what information to include if you do start a new thread).

@ronallan22

Yes, it is normal; it has always been like this since OP1, actually. All it means is that the drive supports saving the booktype to memory which defeats the purpose of autobitsetting. The readme goes into a little bit more detail about it, if you're curious.
