| Im just goin along burnin away dvd after dvd sum cd's too gotta love the music, then Im sittin there burnin another dvd all of a sudden 2 coasters after only like 20 dvd's if that, then the drive stops recognizing blank media, used Sony brand and Maxell brand media both listed as compatible brands, then it makes a wierd noise when it trys to load then it doesnt do anything. While using image burn software a message shows, - Device not Ready (No Reference position Found) can anyone help me understand what this means and If I should consider this thing junk? |

| Welcome to the forum. It certainly sounds like a drive problem. Can it read any type of media CD/DVD? Can you boot from a bootable CD/DVD like a Windows installer or Linux live CD? I was about to suggest that you check the DMA settings and IDE cable, but I suspect that the S in the model number means SATA. You haven't put the disc in upside down have you? Too much alcohol  |

| lol no I wish that was the reason , now im gunna have to wait a couple weeks prolly for newegg.com to send me a new drive. Yea it is SATA and i was skeptical about buying it because I had read somewhere about it being one of the first SATA drives and anything new usualy sucks.. always make it fast and ship it faster. Ive tried multiple firmwares and other utility's eeprom and what not and no matter what I change nothing works but I was hoping their might be sumone out their who knew something I didnt so I post! =D They just came out with a new 20x Lightscribe version now... I can only wonder. |

| Umm oh yea it would read my rainbowsix disc but it would take about 2 to 3 minutes full minutes to load it up and get the autoplay screen up and if you were to hit explore in the my computer folder it would eject disc and ask for a sics as if their was not one in it before |
