Hi all, I recognized an issue on my 451S@832S drive in several past days. The drive is listed normally under Windows XP as a "dvd-rw" drive. However, when I insert a blank dvd+rw media into this drive, then the system change the type of drive to "CD-ROM"!!! When I try to burn f.e. disk image file or copy DVD's from NERO, then I receive an error message "There is not enough space on this media...., please insert new media ....", and the burning is then stopped. When I use DVD Decrypter to burn the same content (disk image, dvd's copy) everything is working properly! I have had the same result for various dvd+rw media (Verbatim, Imation, Memorex). Any recommendation or tip?

My config:
P4/2.6, 512MB Memory
Windows XP, SP1
451S@832S with VS0A, patched by omnipatcher
Nero 6.3.1.20

Sounds like you have used the stock 832S firmware patched with OP to enable cross flashing. This does not work for a 451S drive, only an 812S.

What you need to do is download the the firmware on my site under the 832S title with the name of "VS0x - patched - 451S@832S, 851S@832S" and flash this into the drive by running the exe. You can still use OP to set any other options and strategy changes you might require before flashing it to the drive.

No, I used the right firmware pre-patched for x51S drives. I have just tested it with new VSOB firmware and the result was the same. When I checked the error log in Nero, there was following:

Ok sorry. So this is only an issue with Nero? DVD Decrypter burns the +RW quite happily?

Nero x.20? - yes, I have it on my box as well since about a week and find it's a bit spooky! Nero disk quality test sometimes tells me "...burner does not support this" - I wait a few minutes and then it works! Dont know what the problem is - never saw this with Nero version .18! The transfer rate test sometimes starts with a funny plot. CD Info tells me my DVD is manufactured by Verbatim but the code is a MKM A02 - so it's definitely a Mitsubishi! Maybe the next version of Nero is a better one?

Does 18 version work? I stopped at .17 and went back to V5.5..

Not sure what your problems have been making you return to V5.5?
However, I beg to differ! - I do burn my DVD+RWs with .20 just fine like with .18 It's (only) the CD-DVD Speed test tool that behaves sometimes funny for me(spooks). I had no such problems with .18

Yes, the DVD Decrypter works quite well. The issue is with Nero only. I tried to go back to version 6.1.17, but with the same results. Is it normal, that when I insert blank DVD+R ao DVD+RW media into the drive, windows then switch the type of DVD-RW drive to CD-ROM?

Not sure about that. I would have to check it. Does Nero allow you to erase the +RW disc?

What about Nero CD-DVD Speed. Can you create a data disc using a blank +RW?
