My SHW-1635S is ... too fast?

Hi All,

Sorry if this has been discussed here before, I failed to find the answer by myself.

I have faced a problem simular to this topic . My DVD player Telefunken does not read DVDs burned on 4x and higher. The player had no reading problems before.

Previously I used Pioneer 106 burner on 1x or 2x. DVDs were not readable by the player when I tried 4x.

Now a new LiteOn SHW-1635S allows only 4x, 6x and 8x. My DVD player can not read DVD-Rs recorded faster than 2x.

The burner got the latest official firmware. I use Nero 6.6 software. The blank DVD-Rs are Ritek and TDK.

Now the question: what to do? Can I reduce the speed somehow? Or resolve this somehow else without buying a new player?

The real problem is your player. Burning speed shouldn't affect anything, in terms of reading, unless the burn quality is very poor. Suggest you try different media and burn it at it's reated speed, or one notch lower.
If the player can read +R with book type set to ROM, also try that. But, for the price of a few spindles of media, you can replace the player. so it makes no sense to be buying a lot of media to try.

What is the media code on the stuff you're using now?

And the writer seems to be too new so Omnipatcher does not support it yet...

Re: My SHW-1635S is ... too fast?

Both of those media types will burn worse at lower speeds. And neither is a particularly good choice for the LiteOn. Try something else, or replace the player. If you can find it, either TY or Verbatim should be your choice for "something else". And they should be burned at rated speed, or one notch below.

OK. BTW what is TY? Is it a brand name or an abbreviation?

So it's not LiteOn problem you reckon? No point to replace it with say Pioneer or something else?

The main problem is your player. It doesn't read recordable discs very well.
