Wow! Yes, that does the job. Works perfectly on 1635S!

Used "XSF 3 w YS0R.BIN". Displays a DOS GUI where you have to press enter to flash the drive. Interesting it skipped 2000h to 3FFFh. Must be where the EEPROM data is now stored.

Thanks yangxi. This is indeed a nice New Years present to LiteOn/Sony users.

I'll add this to the LiteOn FAQ later on.

Sure, but use the 'r' option to read out the firmware to a file and check that the size is 2 MB.

It should work. Try a read first and see if you get a 2MB bin file. If you do then please send me the bin file.

I'm very interested to hear how you get on.

Edit: Hehe, ala42 beat me to it.

Well I have the bin I have extracted from the PS05 Flasher (uncompressed and unscrambled). I'll read it from the drive and see if they match, that will also tell me if I have extracted it properly.

Well mixed results. It appears to read the entire 2MB. There are differences between my extracted version and what is read from the drive. I would guess the extracted version is not correct. Flashed the PS05 read from the drive back into the drive and it did not work correctly. Not sure what went wrong as xsf indicated no problem. Flashed using windows flasher and it's O.K. Will need to look at this again.

How did you extract the bin from the flasher and unscramble it? There's a very sneaky rolling xor that only affects the odd byte though the firmware, plus a swapped section of the firmware. Are you sure that this isn't the difference between your flasher bin file and the file extracted with XSF?

I suspect that's what I am seeing as it is different only at certain bytes and one section of the firmware seems to be in a different spot.

It's interesting to know that the 1-MB SST serial flash chip on the 5S model has an EOL status. I guess that's why the 6S model is out. Perhaps LiteOn got a great deal on a last time buy.

Can anyone check what flash chip is identified by the tool on the 6S drive?

I wonder if the 8K address range that it skipped was the FBBM.

@C0deKing
they were extracted from the drives, flashed back for testing and all worked fine. i haven't done the tests as i don't have these drives, but you can be sure they are ok and won't do any damage to a drive.

XSF detects my drive (Liteon 1213s) but don't want to flash it(reporting code 27,invalid flash file). I'm using firmware TS0D.bin for flashing.

Drive was flashed few times(to 1633s,1653, DRU710) and it was working good, but when I tried firmware TS0J (org from Liteon website) not anymore.I restored eeprom file and firmware with TSOD.bin STOCK before flash.

Right now my drive has firmware TSOD but it won't record DVD-R or DVD+Rs (doesn's recognize mediums). CD writing is OK.

1213s' flashROM is parallel type, not serial type. XSF is a flash tool for serial flashROM only.
