Oh, thank you. That saved me from a blunder. I just looked up the "P" "H" "S" and "L" deciphering.Quote:No.
PATA drives require PATA firmware; SATA drives require SATA firmware.
Oddly enough, this leaves me in the weird condition of having my cheapest DVD writer as the best one too. That dvd940e @ 20A4P was sold (I bought it for) just $16 because those things don't work well in stock condition. Its a 3rd faster than and twice the quality of my spendy Pioneer. Thanks again! -

Now, a HP dvd1040e, also at 20A4P "A version" did MCC 003 in 5-1/2 minutes and made almost as nice of a quality scan (as my converted 940e / 18A1H).
However, this 1040e / 20A4H also takes 5-1/2 minutes to burn CD's. ??? Any ideas on the slow CD burning? -

Okay, the dvd 1040e / 20A4H got switched over to:
20A4H.QP5AS.patched-fbl-eos-eoht.exe
Its the secondary firmware version.
Now the read accuracy is up by 20%, and the DVD PIF's are ten times lower (previously over 900, now about 90).
If you've got anywhere near 1000 PIF's, then perhaps the secondary firmware version is worth a try--see the first post of this thread.
CD's previously written quite well are now coming out with 0 Pif's. Zero. Those are audiophile quality CD's. Yay! Finally, the dedicated external CD writer can be retired. For reference, both firmwares wrote my CDs at 18x; however, I will gladly wait an extra minute or two for the perfect CD's that it does now.
I wish that these excellent firmwares were available for the sata versions of this hardware -

This is my first time posting to this thread, and I am anxious to try out the firmware, but the links seem to not be working. I have tried all of them, but no go. I have been trying all day Saturday, and Sunday, but links will not work. I will keep trying, however, I want to maximize my new drive!! -

Hi tmsgabber and welcome to cdfreaks.
No problem at my end, with any of the links. Might pay to check with the rpc1 admin, to see if your IP is blocked, for some reason.__________________

I've got an ATAPI DVD A DH20AP drive I've flashed with some one of the Roms in the first post, but now I dont remember which one it was as it was a long time ago.
Now I have a problem with reading a Dual-Layer CD's that I've burned... and it took a bloody long time to finish burn process like at 100% it just froze and took 10 min to finalize the cd
Which firmware should I try out for burning DL DVD's? -

Verbatim 8x DVD-R DL Double Couche 8.5GbQuote:None of them should affect DL burning in such a way. What brand of DL media are you using and at what speed are you burning?
Im burning them at speed 8x with CD Burner XP 4.2.4 1430, the first CD failed around 75% I was surfing in Firefox 3.5.3, I have Windows Vista Ultimate Sp2 integrated + all updates, Dr.Web 5.0 AV, & Firewall Outpost Firewall Pro 6.5 running.
Next burn was after reboot it completed but took a damm long time! Ive fjust flashed to 20A4P.9P59S.patched-fbl.exe will see what happens gotta reboot! Thanks for a quick reply!

Its the litescribe versions of A1H hardware that are spectacular with your A4 firmwares.
Examples:
The 18a1H/dvd940e (@20A4P) did 98% in 5 minutes.
The 18a1P (@20A4P) makes coasters (disc edge coastered).
The 20a1H (@20A4H) did 95% score in 4 minutes, 11s.
The dvd1040e (@20A4H-"B") did 95% score in 5 minutes.
The 20a1P (@20A4P) makes coasters (disc edge coastered).
Not compatible with A1P hardware?
I tested several examples and they all did really good until 4.2gb and then made coasters.
