Here's 2 burns of the same Imation MCC004 (Prodisc). The first one is at 20x with OS only enabled and burned in 4:48.

The second is with OS and OHT enabled. The second burn would not burn at 20x and the leadout was very long, meaning a burn time of 5:24 (normally 5:06).

Hmm, it would seem that OHT off is the better choice.

Just curious. is the led "double blinking" during the burn process ?

My previous SONYD21 burn show no HT points in the burning graph but double blinks during the burn process just like an HT/OHT process.

I already tested MCC004 with OHT,FHT off and the results are dubious ( weird ).
- CMC made discs produces good results with OHT/FHT on
- CMC made discs produces bad results ( in the end ) with OHT/FHT off
- Prodisc made discs produces excellent results with OHT,FHT on
I will test Procisc MCC004 with OHT/FHT off an post the results.

Yes. The double blink indicates that HT is active, which happens whenever you overspeed a disc, which doesn't have a strategy for the speed selected. The dips are caused by OHT.

I notice you are still using an old version of the test firmware. I think Wind would prefer to see results with the latest version. If the latest version causes a problem with your drive, I'm sure he would like to see it even more so.

Do you think it is better to let user switch the function of OHT when overspeed to 18/20x?

I haven't tried many discs, because I thought the option to do this was already gone, but from what I'm seeing, with this version, it looks like the option should be left for the user.

I think the improvement in jitter has made a big difference to (OHT off) 18x/20x burning.

I don't think so if you disable OHT.
As I mentioned to you, some interpolation need be checked by OHT.

Perhaps it is for the best to always enable OHT when overspeed burning with HT, but perhaps OHT could be a bit less sensitive to servo feedback, so more media (like my MCC004 above for example) will burn at higher speeds.

MCC 004 (Prodisc 7181E - purchased 12/07 from NewEgg), burned at 20x, SB and OS On (5:13)

Burn speed dropped back to 16X near the end of the burn - was this yet another Smart-Burn safety net (OHT and FHT were off) or did my equipment crap out? Disc quality, KProbe and TRT turned out good but jitter was higher than on my Prodisc hub code:5218E MCC 004 previous 4:41 burn (11.7% vs 9.3%).

toobad, try setting your 20x RPM to 19.3x using the EEPROM Utilities "20x RPM" tab. For the sake of a few seconds burn time it can avoid speed fallbacks and improve quality.

C0deKing - thanks for the tip. However, when I went to change it, it was already at set at 19.3. How precise a setting is that? Plus or minus a few tenths? If not, I don't know why a few of my burns reach 19.5X.

Also, please check my next post. Although I have OHT and FHT unchecked in Smart-Burn, something is adjusting the burn. Is it the running optimal power calibration? Is it (the ROPC) independent of the Hyper Tuning settings? Is it what is causing the fallbacks, especially on lesser quality media?

I'm impressed by how fast and accurately the 20A3P was able to respond to a bad area(s) on the disc and adjust to save the burn qualtiy on this not so perfect media - even with OHT and FHT disabled.

Did you use the "Show 20x RPM" function. The dropdown list on the tab always defaults to 19.3x. Usually the actual RPM is slightly less than the one selected.

Wind would know better than me but usually it is servo information that causes the speed fallback like that and this will happen with or without OHT enabled. Check your 20x RPM again.

Wind would know better than me but usually it is servo information that causes the speed fallback like that and this will happen with or without OHT enabled. Check your 20x RPM again.
Sorry COdeKing, you were right! When I clicked the tab for 20X RPM it was already showing 19.3 but when I clicked show 20X RPM it was in fact at 19.5. It's now set at 19.3. Thanks!

Wind, is there a chance that this testing firmware would be availaible for DH-20A3L? This drive looks nice but I am planning to move to SATA interface in near future (unless someone can give me a good reason why not to do so?).
