Thanks, I'll try this afternoon.

Verbatim TYG03 @20x (YV5N - HT693) FHT On, OHT/OS Off

The jitter trend of Plextor and BenQ is very similar. Both very low at the beginning (BenQ about 6-7 %) and much more high at the end. LiteOn shows the contrary. However it's a good burn.

Nice to see it drop back to 18x instead of 16x... took a long time to do it though, with the RPM almost stopping for a while.

Sweet TYG03 burn mognegna.

Interesting how little difference there is between Litey and a BenQ scan (PIE/PIF's) in your burn.
Hmm, hardcore Lite-On fans always teached us BenQ's are not reliable when scanning Litey burned dash media...

BTW, interesting difference in jitter, what drive to trust.

Thanks pinto2.
Yes, PIE/PIF can be almost overlapped.
About jitter Plextor and BenQ are very similar, so I don't know if LiteOn is believable.
CATS can give the definitive answer.

Looks like a 20x +R burn could be a rarity in this drive now. Possibly for the best, since there isn't a huge difference in burn time. My last burn of this media at 20x is here:

Jitter scans are not reporting an objective property of the disc (just like PIE/PIF are not objective properties of the disc), so different drives can report different jitter and still be "right". Even a CATS scan is not an objective measurement - it's merely a standardized measurement.

So what do you suggest? You have a CATS machine? Can we send our media to you to test? I think your limb has broken.

The drive decided to fall back at the last minute. Still a much faster time than 16x, and you have the added bonus of a [visually] pretty usable disc. Nice average jitter, too.

C0deKing, I think if you continuously burn discs at high speed, the drive will enter a high temperature state, then I let drive give up for 20x because the write power or servo may unstable under such high temperature. If you didn't enable overspeed the burn speed will even drop to 8x.

Same media as post #513.

Wind, I wonder if the closer OHT checks would be better if they narrowed (shorter interval) after a certain postion (say 0x18), rather than EFM clock, so they narrow at all burn speeds towards the end.

Hi Wind. I have a very well ventilated case, and the same drive is used for scanning after the burn. I also let the drive sit while I post the results, so I would imagine it would have plenty of time to cool down.

How long after a burn does it take for the drive to cool down, on average?

I think that is a very good idea. It should improve the burn as the drive gets close to the outer edge if the disc. LiteON may have to change the name of HT on OHT to Super HT and Super OHT..

Wind,

Here's another try wiyh Ritek R05 with the newest firmware @ 16X and a clear of OPC history. This looks much better and about what I expect from this low quality media. This is burn is about the sane quality that my Pioneer DVR-112 and DVR-115 can produce with this media. I think 12X will probably be the best speed to burn this media.

Unfortunately, different CATS modules can give you different results, too.

The distance of OHT checks depends on the quality it checks. For this case, the distance was set to maximum due to nothing to change for each OHT, so, I don't think it would helpful to shorten the maximum distance of OHT for this case.
