MegaDETH, I notice that you are saying that OHT is enabled but none of you scans are showing any OPC relinks. I've read about 20A1 drives doing this. Is OHT definitely enabled in your above burns?

worker, interesting about your lockups while reading. With over 200 quality and TRT scans now, using XP firmware, I've never had a read lockup. Perhaps it's a timing issue, but I wonder why the H version would be any different.

Re: LiteOn DH20A3 Test Firmware - Results & Discussion

^ Seems to be. The repeating OPC recalibrate in the CLV section of the burn is now fixed and my results with OHT off, HT/OS on, are better. I haven't had a PIF over 4 on any 8x media burned at 16x yet. DVD-R PIEs are still very high.

I haven't tried any DL media yet, with OHT enabled. I'll wait for some confirmation from Wind that this is now working.

I burned two CMC MAG D04s, one at 8x and one at 6x, with OHT off, using XP5T. Both discs read fine at 12x in the drive, but will not pay smoothly in the one player I have tried so far, even though the scans don't look too bad.

Re: LiteOn DH20A3 Test Firmware - Results & Discussion

The read lockup's are a bit of a mystery. I still have not had it running the firmware for the "3H" drive. At this point I prefer that firmware as I think it produces better burns. I'm seeing some differences as the drive adjusts from one burn to the next. I would be interested in seeing your results with this firmware.

Re: LiteOn DH20A3 Test Firmware - Results & Discussion

I saw that the S203B had a problem burning RITEKF16, so I thought I would try some RITEKP16 in this drive (16x, HT/OS = On). 18x and 20x was available.

Perhaps taking a bit longer at the beginning (12s), pays off in the end.

Re: LiteOn DH20A3 Test Firmware - Results & Discussion

If you want to compare the results of HT/non-HT, OHT/non-OHT, please check two things,

1. If drive write discs with HT, the led will flash twice each time.
2. OHT take place together with re-link.

And,

1. Some discs will always use HT because no write strategy for them.
2. When disc is writing by HT, OHT will be enable.(see remark 1)
3. When over speed writing, HT will always be used because no write strategy for that speed. Some 16x discs can write at 18x/20x without HT because there are write strategies for them.

remark 1. Force Hyper Tune(FHT) is only for those discs and speed which have write strategies for them. For item2, you can write discs with HT and turn off OHT by enable FHT.

remark 2. The setting might be a little different between models but the recognition shall be the same.

Clear? Any suggestions for the arrangement are welcome.

I know what your saying and I also thought it was odd, it's on my other machine but I will check it again in the morning. I was sure I set everything on before I started burning

Re: LiteOn DH20A3 Test Firmware - Results & Discussion

I did 2 identical burns with ImgBurn at 12X with 16X verbs, SB disabled, ht/oht/os off.
1st one with XP5T and 2nd one with XV5X. (cleared OPC after flash)
The 1st one is typical of what I had been getting with this media/firmware.
2nd is a clear improvment. While I noticed the lead in was shorter by about 7 to 10 seconds(around 38 secs) total burn time was a little longer with XV5X.

That's very clear. Thanks. I couldn't understand why OHT wasn't being turned on when overspeeding a disc, but it's because I currently have FHT enabled. I like the way it works. It means you can overspeed known media without relinks and with good results, going by my above burns.

RITEKG05, 8x branded, burned at 16x, FHT/OS/OHT = On (6:12)

This RITEKG05 usually struggles to burn at 6x, let alone 16x.

Same media as above with OHT off this time. I've change the PIE scale for a better comparison.

Basically, OHT will force turn on when writing with HT. But, if you want to write a disc with HT and without OHT, you can turn on FHT and turn off OHT
(some kind of back door). In the other word, you still can turn on OHT when overspeeding a disc.

FHT OHT StrategyExist result:
0 x 0 HT: on OHT: on
0 0 1 HT: off OHT: off
0 x 0 HT: on OHT: on
0 1 1 HT: off OHT: on
1 0 x HT: on OHT: off
1 1 x HT: on OHT: on

Strategy exist or not has been explained at previous post.

Does that help?
