The initial results are very impressive even with media that I would never have thought would burn at the higher speeds. I displayed one example some time back of RICOHJPNR02 burned at 16x in the FastBurn sneak peak thread. Attached is a CMC MAG E01 at 16x (the PIF hump at 3.2GB is a defect of this media).  The read speed unlock patch enables 12x for all media that was limited to 8x (+-RW, DL) and 16x for all media that was limited to 12x (less than 16x +-R). Please let me know ASAP if there are any strange happenings with this firmware, even if it happens when burning CDs. Each file contains all of the patch combinations so you can use just the features you want. 16xOS = 16x OverSpeed rs = Read Speed unlocked fbd = Fast Burn Dual format (3S/5S only) The HV9N/MV9N packed file has no rs versions as the rip lock was already removed by Wind. SmartBurn is required to enable the OverSpeed feature: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=177331 Known issues (Now fixed in MS0R/HS0E) The 16x OverSpeed patch causes a problem in the 165P6S and 165H6S that stops it from reading DVD-RAM. If you need to use DVD-RAM then you should not use this patch. | I will releases all of the firmwares that you have requested (and maybe even a patch tool) but I just want to make sure there are no problems with the one's I've released so far, so the more feedback I get, the happier I will be. I need everyone to please try all types of media (+-RW, +R9, CD-R, CD-RW) and report back that all went well. Once I have this feedback, I will release more.

| RICOHJPNR01, 4x@16x CAV, HT OS on, had to turn SB off to reach 16x. Not too good, unfortunately, but it is 4x over its limit.

| Try RICOH JPN R01 at 12x. Burns at 8x show good quality with that media. I had burned at 12x with DVR-108 ( firmware by nil ) with average results. |

| Thanks KTL. The original title of this thread was probably a bit misleading, so I've changed it. This patch affects all media that was effected by the OverSpeed option in the past. So SL DVD media will burn up to 16x and DL DVD media will burn up to 8x. DVD RW and CD remain the same. I just tried a RICOHJPND00 (2.4x media) at 8x but it fails with a calibration error, so it might pay to be careful using significantly higher speeds with DL media. IIRC this media would normally burn at 4x with OS enabled.

| Thanks Codeking, with these test firmwares you have made my 1635 a great performer. Ok , my 1st burn with this firmware, cleared OPC, SB off, OHT off, OS & HT ON, TYG02 burned at 16X, burn time 6:35, if not for that last spike I would be very happy, but? I expect improvments with the 2nd and 3rd burns of this media. |
| 4X Sony04D1 burned with Nero at 16x however burntime was 8:20???? SB & OHT Off, OS & HT on. Not bad. |
| DVD-R 4x Ridisc (RITEKG04) I first tried to burn it with OS and firmware MV9N at 8x but I get calibration error in the lead-in. I flashed into MSOP 16x4all and tried again. This time CD-Speed allowed 12x and 16x choice but the disc had been burned @8x P-CAV : OS : On HT : On   I must said that even @4x with other drives this batch often gives me a PIF extended zone at the end of the disc (the PIF values in this zone are between 4 and 6). |

| Update: I've updated my internal patch tool, so I can now support 6S patching and create the files more easily. So I've now released more firmware including the read speed unlock. Firmwares released 1635S YS0Z (more files enclosed) 1635S YV6P 165P6S MS0P (more files enclosed) 165P6S MV9N v5.03 Each file now contains all of the different combinations of the patches, so you can flash the file that has the features that you want.
