It hasn't been released to us poor dummies yet. Just the regular testers got it now.

I'm on the fence about the 18a1p drive. I check Newegg everyday for deals and free shipping on the drives and read this forum everyday for any updates or news on the current generation of drives, yet I am unable to make up my mind on which one to purchase.

From what I read and saw on Pulsee's 10 burner showdown, the 18a1p with CodeKing's firmware seems to have the best burn quality, which is extremely important to me. Burn quality is my number one priority with quality scan in close second. All of my dvd burns are archives and I am currently using my old NEC2500 burning at 4x to keep the burn qualities consistent.

As far as media, I use whatever quality media that are on sale. At the moment, it is Ridata RicohR01 and RitekP16. I am waiting for the Verbatim with rebate on Newegg to have free shipping.

The only thing holding me back are the reviews on Newegg about the 18a1p and was wondering if CodeKing's firmware would make a significant difference as far as consistent burn quality.

In fact, I bought a BenQ 1800, waiting for Code's fast firmware for Litey. I'll crossflash 1800 to 18A1P someday when Codeking ....

with the help of zebra i have flashed my 18a1p -> 20a1ß and now i´m waiting for a fastburn firmware for my 20a1p.
then is everything perfekt!

weeluvmal, this is a very complex patch and not one that I would want to release until I was sure there is no risk for anyone that uses it. I have selected beta testers that I know can give me reliable reports and not release the beta firmware. I thought this thread would be interesting for people to see the progress of the patch and to know it was coming. I guess that wasn't appreciated by some, so I will keep my patches private in future, to avoid anyone becoming impatient for the release.

I have released the BenQ DW1800 FastBurn version to the public already and based on feedback from this and the testers of the LiteOn versions I will release LiteOn versions soon. Fortunately LiteOn have now released later versions for most of the drives, so I can release these now instead.
