Nop, it might seem that way, but i scanned after @ 4x and the results were very similar in PIE, PIF was a litlle more (more 50 total).

I'm going to buy only the last disc of every pack... LOL.

20A1S.9L08.patched-fbl-eos-eoht, HT/OS/SB all on at 16x on budget media - scan doesn't look that hot BUT this is the very 1st 16x burn on my 20A1S which loads and plays smooth on my fussy Cyberhome CH-462 standalone so a big thank you to CK for turning my 20A1S from a pure reader/scanner to one usable burner finally. Previous >12x speed burns may scan fine but still choke and skip so badly that I had relegated the 20A1S to <12x burns and finally to a pure reader/scanner.

Very nice!

KL0N FB-EOS-EOHT
Memorex 16x DVD+R
CMC MAG M01 at 12x

The batch has gotten better as I've gone down. The PIF spike near the end is a media defect.

And still more of the cruddy M01...this time, at 16x!

HT, OHT enabled; SB, OS disabled.

Memorex and Philips branded. Doesn't make much of a difference.

My 20A1P drive is behaving weird with the EOHT firmware. My settings are FHT/OHT/SB on, OS disabled. I know with TYG03 media, HT is disabled by default. That means no relinking spikes on the writing graph and no LED double blinking. What's weird is when I attempt to burn another kind of media after a TYGO3 disc, hypertuning remain disabled. So I have to go into smartburn and unclick then reclick the settings. Then it functions like normal. Wonder if anybody is seeing this.

lewjay I was having some similar problems. I flashed a 18A1P>20A1P>20A4P. It is still acting "weird" but manageable for now. I turned off OHT and that seemed to help. Of course like you I'm up for any ideas.

Greensman_2, perhaps your drive just doesn't like 20A4P firmware. Some drives don't for some reason. lewjay's problem has been reported with stock firmware in the past.

I tried the 20A1P f/w too and it seemed to act strangely as well. I may have to revert back the the 18A1P f/w just for giggles. I'll report my findings as soon as I get around to it.

Thanks CK!

Verbatim 16x DVD+R
MCC 004 by CMC [MAP6...]
16x; OHT=on; all else=default

1st disc from the spindle. Not extraordinarily good, but definitely not bad. I'm satisfied.

Memorex LabelFlash 16x DVD-R
RITEKF1 @ 16x
OHT=enabled; all else=default

Not bad. Jitter went down as the PIE went up for a second, and then everything began to balance out, so the drive was definitely adjusting itself in a good way, IMHO. The drive did completely pause at 3.7 GB [the deepest dip] for about 7 to 10 seconds, though. All other dips, the drive stayed spun up, and burn time would have been around 6:05.

Verbatim 16x DVD-R [New Packaging]
MCC 03RG20 [CMC's MAP6...]
Written at 20x, with only change of OS=on.

Okay until the end. Even then, jitter seemed to stay down. Another burn of the media might sort out the quality issue. 20x might be a bit too fast for this particular media, though.

16x burn.
eos/fbl/eoht firmware
fht/oht/os/sb on
insert snide remark about how 16x overspeeding of 8x media is getting better results than 12x burns of 16x media...

Released: LH-20A1P KL0N FB FBL EOS EOHT II

See the first post for the download link (same name as the last file but the packed file includes an EOHT II file to indicate that all the -eoht file are in fact EOHT II)

A big thanks to Albert for all of the tests.

Enjoy!
