First image, Liteon 160P6S using firmware PS08, Office Depot brand Ritek G04 at 4x.

Second image, CD-DVD Speed burn on Liteon 160P6S using test FW PV7U, same media, burned at 6x (8x was also listed as an available burn speed). Smartburn, Hypertuning, and Overspeed were all chosen, although I'm not familiar with the program so I hopefully had all 3 enabled.

Third image, scan of the 6x burn. It appears as though there was a small improvement in the 6x burn, although they are similar overall and more comparisons are necessary.

One thing I'm certain of - the physical gap with -R media has been 'fixed', the gap is visibly narrower.

A 2nd burn of Ritek G04 at 6x, used Nero Burning ROM to burn this time (data files). SB/HT/OS on. Jitter is still 1-2% higher than the same discs on my Benq 1640, but it's an improvement over the stock 4x Liteon burn. A pretty good result overall for these particular discs.

Yay! An update for my drive! Finally!

I had a Shintaro DVD-R blank [CMC MAG. AE1] lying around, so I decided to grant it the honour of being the first test candidate.

Nero data disc burned at 12x. HT/SB/OS all on.

    Here's what we have:

    Code:
    Date : 2006-03-20 08:19:54 (UTC)
    Model : 0-0-3-0 G:LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-160P6S PV7U
    Disc : DVD-R , CMCMAG.AE1 [CMC Magnetics Corporation]
    Speed : 8x
    ECC blocks sum (PI/PIF) : 8/1
    Scanned range : 0 - 2297889
    Sampling count : 116670
    Errors : 0
    PI Max : 65
    PI Average : 15.34
    PI Total : 262684
    PIF Max : 4
    PIF Average : 0.11
    PIF Total : 1960

The burn starts much closer to the centre of the disc, so I presume the lead-in issue is now fixed!

As you can see from the scan, at up to the rated 8x speed, both PI and PIF were quite low. Even after the ramp-up to 12x, the figures are more than acceptable for this MID. And 6:20 is a bloody fast 12x burn!

A big thanks to C0deKing, Karr, and Wind for making this possible!

Two more 8x scans of the above post using Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.50, with the Lite-On SHW-160P6S and BenQ DW1650.

Note how the BenQ pauses every 250 MB.

Test burn at 8x with CMCMAG.AM3 DVD-R with the new PV7U firmware (no HT/OS) to see if the lead-in problem has been fixed. IT HAS, so well done Liteon and most of all huge props to Karr and Wind for assisting us all. Your dedication should be rewarded by management!!

Thanks for the firm, now I can see the movies in my standalone divx player. I did this test without any knowledge of their meaning but I can guess that is a negative result:
The media is a Verbatim burned at 16X with 6 Xvid files...
