This is a better drive than my ASUS 1814 BLT because it can handle both +R/-R discs with the same good results.
I bought the retail ASUS for 49 Euro while this one 20A1S-15C only for 26,50 euros bulk.
The Asus does a good job with +R but not with -R. Anyway I bought Asus for the Lightscribe.
This is awesome because it is burned at 18x!!! and scanned by 8x.
I think this is one of the best burns I have ever seen.

Here is first of mine:
That's write DVD-R 4x
Burn speed: 8x
Overspeed: On

I scan at 4x, but as I see, everybody scan at 8x. Is 8x recommended for this drive?

zivija, nice burn.

We use 8x burning because it's quicker, but some 20A1 drive don't produce reliable scans at 8x. Take that same disc in your above post and scan it at 8x. If the results are similar then you might as well use 8x and save time.

It seems that my is not reliable at 8x, I scanned the same disc, but scans are not even closer, same is for other few discs I tried.
Seems that I have to scan at 4x....

Memorex DVD+R DL 2.4xx
RITEK D01 @4x, but due to some problems with buffer, it was hardly more than 3x.

Got "No Additional Sense Information" error on the jitter test. I think it was on the layer break.

Is this a good burn?

It's very good, especially for that media. And don't worry about the jitter tests; none of these Liteys can scan the 2nd layer for jitter.

I'd be interested in seeing if the drive [and any other drives, if you have them] can read it in a transfer rate test, with such a good error scan.

Imation but look at EMTEC. I think this drive is a very good one. I take very good results from most MID's I have test with only some exceptions.

TY+R (8x) written with NEC-3500 @8x
Scanned with 20A1S @4,8,16

It's a pretty good result. 4x and 8x are exactly the same. The small jitter spike in the 8x scan is at the exact moment the screen went into sleep mode (weird coincidence maybe ?).

CPU usage is very high at 8x. Maybe a consequence of the SATA interface.

I think you post in the wrong forum. And any TY 8x it's the best choice ever. Wherever I burn anything like that I got excellent results no matter the drive.

Nice result for a media that I rarely see around these parts. I'm guessing the drive automatically enabled HyperTuning for that MID?

Well it's not the wrong forum because I scanned with the Liteon
I got it today and haven't had the time to write anything with it yet. I mainly plan to use it as a scanner since the NEC gives me excellent write quality (I guess the new Liteon will do the same with those disks), but I'll do some test burns tomorrow and post the results.

CPU usage is very strange. Mine gets up to 92% but you get 90@1x and 32@2x. Maybe cdspeed can't calculate cpu usage for SATA drives.

I have never had anything good to say for past Lite-On drives as I was up for LG drives that I always found as excellent drives. One of all time classics 4163. But then it was BenQ 1640. And now after LG20/LG22/Optiarc 7173 / Lite-On A1P I have the ASUS 1814BLT which is good but it needs a better firmware for sure. And I just bought very cheap this Lite-On 20A1S-15C which gives me very good results as for 16x burns! The only think it wasn't very good was DL+.

Edited>
I bought EMTEC for 15 Euros/100 box.
I was sure that it was a mistake to that price as they have priced 100pcs for the price of 50. So I went back and bought other 100pcs. Means 0.15Euros/pcs.Incredible and I want to thank the guys who made that mistake.

TY 8x burned at 8x. Nothing interesting, good results except that slowdown at 2,6Gb. It didn't seem to affect anything though.
The TRT isn't perfect. Maybe it's because I had emule in the background.
I still think it's weird that this drive can write faster than it can read
