| I have the Lite-On LH-20A1H (LLOC Firmware) drive with Lightscribe. Using what is labeled as HP DVD+R media. I had bought two spindles of 50. First spindle had some problems initially with completing burns which was corrected with firmware update. Now, I have made it through the first spindle and upon inserting the blank media from the second spindle my drive turns from DVD-Ram to CD drive. I had read that the manufacturer of the media, which is CMC Mag, is pretty much junk so I went about trying more media thinking I may just have a few baddiscks in the spindle. I have now tried every disk in the spindle with the same result. What is the possiblity of the whole spidle of 50 disks is bad? Thinking maybe drive or even Nero. Any suggestions on troubleshooting? | The change from DVD-RAM to CD Drive is normal when you insert a blank DVD+-R on Windows XP [since you can only use the built in burning for CDs]. When you try to burn now that you've updated the firmware and started on the new spindle, what errors are you getting with Nero/DVD Decryptor?

| Nero Recode does not regognize there is media in the drive at all. I was able to burn to the media using Nero Express (Data), IMGBurn, and DVD Decryptor. All are burned media is unrecognized on any drive in my computer, but the 2 ISO's burned via IMGBurn/DVD Decrypter worked in my dvd/vcr combo. | Force the drive to use 12x for burning CMC MAG M01, and make sure that you do not set the drive to overspeed. [Burning at its rated speed of 16x will work, but 12x would be better.] See if your drives will recognize any discs burned at 12x. I'm not quite sure what to make of Nero Recode not recognizing that there is media in the drive, since you can use Nero Express to burn. Do you still have AnyDVD [or any other programs like that] installed? They may interfere with blank disc recognition.  [BTW, it is recommended to make an image file with Nero programs and burn them using ImgBurn, as it has been known to make better quality burns, believe it or not. | AnyDVD was removed before burning anything today. My other DVD drive which is labaled as DVD-ROM DX-DVDR100 did not recognize any of the disks either. Burned at 12x speed. After burn drive still labeled CD-R, and neither one of the disks were read, but they work fine in DVD/VCR combo. Thanks Richard |

| Hmm...I suggest you try the following link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 It sounds like something was left over from various programs, and is interrupting the process. I see that sometimes something made ImgBurn unable to get exclusive access to the drive. But it can verify your burn, which means that your drive can at least read the data back.
