I've only had one batch of F02, oddly enough Maxell as well. For the first something-odd discs in the spindle, the plant had mis-stamped/distributed the dye, with a visible pinpoint defect in the dye that immediately caused the QS to drop to 0. The others turned out like this (yes, it's on one of the Sammy 18x drives and not the 18A1P, but it still proves my point...). It's rather iffy media.

Here's the same above disc but scanned in my Liteon 165P6S. Results look much better with this scan.

It is an example that the Lite-On LH-18A1P is not at all an optimistic scanner. Though I have only a BenQ 1655 for comparison, the PIE averages of the 18A1P are more often higher than lower compared with those of the BenQ drive (with the same discs of course).

It's usually an indication that the drive is not as good a reader and is possibly not as tolerant to high jitter or low contrast.

Most of the time the Lite-on is actually more optomistic when scanning, but not here. I'm keeping the disc though, should be alright - TRT is perfect. Prodisc made Verbatim MCC004 @ 18x. SmartBurn off, force HT off, OHT off, overspeed on.

maybe a slower burn speed might get rid of the PIF spikes at the end of your burn but the BenQ shows no spikes, might not be a reliable scan because of the high jitter Max. 12x works very well for me on Prodisc/MCC004 I find the CMC MAG./MCC004 is great for 18x burning.

At that part of the burn jitter looks to be around 10% though A lot more options to try out still - will be trying more 12x and 16x burns

OHT On
Taiyo Yuden -R 16x (TYG03 as sold by Panasonic) @ 16x
Scanned in LH-18A1P and Plextor PX-760 (PIE/POE, PIF, Beta/Jitter)

The LiteOn sees a lot mor PIE and the drives do not really agree when it comes to PIF spikes.

I wouldn't say its bad for an 18X burn, I bet that disc is just as playable as one with less PIFs. I have not had such great results @ 18X and 20X myself, but for burning at that speed you are going to have to go some to get alot better.

But isnt' this a 8x speed burn? 2000 PIF are a bit much for an 8x burn, even when scanned @8x speed. Also I would rather dislike the fact that the mass of PIF are at the beginning of the disc and not at the end. That's usually a signal that something is wrong.

Sorry hwp you are right, I did not look above, my mistake. Yes you are right, it is a little poor for an 8X burn.

How can I tell when Online HyperTuning is enabled? I have disabled it, but seems to be still running for +r ? The following images are both created with OHT off, yet only the -r appears to have it off?
