Hi, all. Happy holidays first off.

So I've been ripping and burning DVDs on this machine (Windows XP SP2) for at least 1.5 years w/ very few problems. I went 3-4 months w/o ripping or burning anything and started up again yesterday only to encounter some problems.

Nero Burning ROM 7 and 8 are having problems writing DVDs. Last night w/ Nero 7 I received two "Drive not ready" errors. So I updated the drive's firmware and a third burn attempt succeeded. I assumed I'd fixed it and went to bed.

Unfortunately, I got another "Drive not ready" error this evening. What happens is Nero 7 gets 3% into the process. It's actually written data (I can see it on the disk when I remove it) but then I hear the drive spin up a couple times and then Nero errors out with the "Drive not ready" error. I upgraded to Nero 8 and attempted w/ that. One burn worked and then I got another "Drive not ready" error (w/ Nero 8 it occurs at 1%, not sure if that matters). Then another burn attempt worked.

Below is the Nero 8 log from one of the failures. Is there anything I can do to fix it or is my drive going bad?

Thanks!

(the H and I drives are Daemon Tool virtual drives)

(If you need what I snipped from under "Media specific" let me know and I'll post it. Had to snip it so the whole log would fit in this post)

Welcome to the forum, and Happy Holidays back to you.

Can you complete a burn with Daemon Tools uninstalled/disabled? That could be causing the problem.

Well that seems to have done the trick. After disabling all emulated drives and closing Daemon Tools I've been able to burn six straight DVDs w/o a problem. So simple. Since it's working, I'll not worry about why I didn't have to do that before.

Thanks a ton!
