Low PI Errors, low PI Failures and low Jitter. The lower, the better. The one to look out for especially are PI Failures because if you have many of them (when they show up as yellow and red on the graph) then the disc can be unreadable in other drives or become unreadable in a few weeks/months.

That is the 'basic' gist of it.

Hi KTL. Check out Nero CD/DVD Speed v4.7.7.16 to fix that TRT ripple problem.

Got me a new drive, so I can let my LH-20A1P be itself...

Drive made in Sept. '07. Came with 9P53-A. Backed up EEPROM and firmware, and immediately flashed to 9PV1. Burned this...

OHT=enabled; all else=default
9PV1 FBL EOHT 6 [unreleased, AFAIK]

The disc had physical flaws at the outer edge, which accounts for the end. I'm not entirely certain, but I think the additional spiking is probably just a bad disc.

Much better this time around. Results I'm used to, with [slightly] lower jitter to boot.

Similar PIE and PIF to what I'm accustomed. May be a placebo effect, but jitter seems to be lower by a pinch [but I think EOHT5 did that with my A1P, too, versus EOHT6 and EOHT4].

What's jitter like when scanned in the new drive, Albert? I'm asking because I have two A4's and they're night and day in this respect (e.g. 8% vs. 11% on the same disc). My old A1 almost never stays below 10% either.

A1P @ 4x. A4P @ 12x. Both did jitter at 1x, as far as I know [the A4P's scan was done in DiscSpeed, which might not pay attention to the jitter setting, but the A4P did a spin down before scanning jitter]. Night and day difference.

Might look better scanned in the A4P itself as far as PIF and PIE go, but I doubt it...

Still doing first burns with the new drive. All I have to say is that this little drive is impressing me. Best PIF result I've had with any media. Jitter and PIE aren't half bad, either.

Jitter once again better than what the A1P gives its own burns. A speedy 8x burn.

It does get down to ~8%, so it seems OK. What I experienced with my drives is a ~3% difference across the board (never see < 8% with those).

Multiple discs. Check the screenshot for the scanning drive for each disc.

Blanket statement: PIF and jitter are good across the board.

This is the first time I've had a disc fall back so early [which is why I will have switched to just EOHT firmware for the next few posts]. Glad it didn't affect anything.
