First burn with XP5T FB EOS ERS.

FB = FastBurn
EOS = Enhanced OverSpeed (20x for most media. Some media is limited to 18x)
ERS = Enhanced Read Speed (16x increased to 20x)

Just some average quality Verbatim MCC004 MIT PAPA.

I'm still tossing up whether to stick with this RPM or to use a slower RPM that produces a 12x burn in about 6:50 (start speed 5.8x). This way the 12x burn time is more in the middle of the 16x and 8x burn time and may produce better results, especially with lesser quality media.

All of this is still experimental, so please don't ask when it will be released.

A big thanks to seeker010 for supplying this drive. It's not available here and may not be for some time.

I've got my fingers crossed that you'll release this FW modification at some point. Looks very promising from where I sit. Thanks again for your work, COdeKing

Well it certainly looks good at 8x. No sign of any resonance problems.

Hi C0deKing
Is it possible to using 20x rpm for 8x/12x/16x?

Hi Wind
I haven't tried it. I did 18x RPM for all in one of the earlier 16x models but with the reduction in quality, it wasn't a popular patch.

The 20x RPM would be too high for 8x. This would just be CLV for the whole burn.

12x and 16x can use the 20x RPM. 16x would also need to have P-CAV enabled and CLV point parameters need to be changed. I'm not sure what the quality would be like though.

I shouldn't ask you about that. In fact, I should ask someone else.
I have tried already and still wait for response. So, hehe......

Hehe, I'll show you a 20x rpm 12x burn tomorrow. It should just take a few changes in my new tool, as long as I have found all of the parameters and none are still the default.

Have you seen 20x reading yet:

can we expect these patches (FB, EOS, ERS) for every DH-20A3x drive?

burnt like 40 discs with my current writer so i think i need to buy a new drive, the 20A3H seems to be nice

LOL! Sounds like a good reason to me. Yes, all models.

zmmr942, both read very reliably at 12x (SL is 16x). Here's a +R DL TRT:

Hi Wind. It would seem I still have one more parameter to find, as the drive had to go over EFM clock speed to enter the CLV mode.

Also the lead-out took a very long time for some reason, perhaps not expecting the high RPM when writing this. I think like the read speed, 18x in this hardware would be a better choice. I am using the highest 20RPM selected in the EEPROM. Using the default lower of the 3 20x RPMs may correct this. I'll try this and see.

Nice result though. Very few PIFs in the CAV part of the burn. All options were off.

What would be good for this drive, when burning at 12x with OS On, would be to have overclocked 8x media use the current slower 12x CAV speed (or one that starts at 5.8x ) and underclocked 16x media use the 12x P-CAV speed (starting at 6.6x). Pioneer does something similar to this and it works very well.

8x PRODISC burned at 12x using 20RPM (lowest 20x RPM selected), FHT/OS = On

Still took a long time at the lead-out. The burn actually finished at 5:50. Again a very good result.

I think I'll try 8x CLV next.

I'll post the 12x burn of this G05 here, so as not to mess up the test firmware thread. The 8x burn can be found here:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.ph...9&postcount=98

To think I almost threw this media away, about a year ago, because nothing would burn it well. It's great to see these LiteOn drives burning so well.
