I have just bought and installed this drive as I thought my old drive was having problems and perhaps on its' way out.

Having installed it and attempted to burn a DVD .iso with ImgBurn, I've found I'm still receiving the same I/O errors I was receiving with my old drive.

Firstly, ImgBurn returns the following errors prior to 'attempting' to burn a DVD:
Quote:
DeviceIoControl(FSCTL_LOCK_VOLUME) Not Supported! - Update your motherboard / IDE drivers!!!
DeviceIoControl(FSCTL_DISMOUNT_VOLUME) Failed! - Reason: The segment is already unlocked.
Also, while attempting the burn, ImgBurn gives multiple instances of the following error:

Failed to Write Sectors 134304 - 134335 - Reason: Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format
Furthermore, the original I/O error is still present:




I have a relatively old MoBo - an MSI 7005 v1 - which has a SiS chipset.
  • I've been to the MSI website and it doesn't appear to have any updates for my MoBo that I don't already have installed.
  • I've also been to the SiS web site and installed the relative SiS IDE drivers - 'ide240a'
  • I've also tried 3 different types of disc too: TY DVD-R's, RiDisk DVD-RW's and TDK DVD-RW's.


After taking these steps, I'm still getting the I/O errors as above.

Any help greatly appreciated as I'm currently unable to use either my old or new drives.

I wouldn't know I'm afraid.
As I say, it's a new drive so I didn't really want to mess with it this early on unless absolutely necessary.

I'm in a position where I could send it back if necessary for a replacement or full refund, so am not sure whether to update the firmware or not.

Nero Info Tool reports that my current firmware is:

KLOP is the latest firmware for the LH-20A1P. Same as the DH model. Won't hurt your warranty if you update the firmware to
genuine Liteon firmware.

Is KL0P definitely the correct firmware for the DH as well as the LH models?

Clicking on it gave the following error:


Or do I need to use the KL0P .exe in conjunction with C0deKing's flash utility?

Since the drive is an OEM drive [or, at least, not of the original LH designation] the stock firmware flasher won't agree to flash the drive. You'll have to use a C0deKing-modified firmware in order to flash the drive [which may or may not have to be flashed using the Flash Utility]. The Flash Utility cannot flash the stock firmware package from LiteOn's site.

I'd choose the last listed LH-20A1P firmware from this post: http://club.cdfreaks.com/1670906-post1.html It works well on my drive.

Thanks guys.

I flashed the drive successfully with KL0P - confirmed by InfoTool - but still receive the same I/O error and write errors

Any more suggestions greatly appreciated.

Is there a generic IDE driver, other than Microsoft (which was installed by default to begin with) which I could try? I'm still thinking about the ImgBurn IDE drivers update message.
