| iHES208 question and firmware hi! I just got the Lite-On bd drive. it says Model: iHES208-09 2... Manufacture Date is January 2010. What is the difference between the 208-08 vs 208-09? I remember reading a few weeks back about a firmware (patch?) that allows BD-DL reads of x8 from x4. The info here is dizzying and i would appreciate someone to just point me in the right direction of a thread or CK firmware page so I can get the best scanning/reading/writing out of this drive. How does this drive rates against other BD combo drives from other manufacturers? I got it for $60 on clearance @ Walmart. thanks for your help! |

| Re: iHES208 question and firmware Hi bronze_titan. Well your drive should be able to scan bd/dvd wothout any problems, now it there is a difference between the 08 and the 09, i have no idea, liteon lately has some confusing names. Also you can run some test and compare them with other drives, you will probably find a lot of transfer rate tests from other drives, simply pick the one that is closer to your drives speed and compare your results. I am not sure that there is a modified firmware that will allow increasing of speed, you can ask in this thread.

| Re: iHES208 question and firmware Thanks vroom...I'll take a gander at that thread. Besides playing my blu-ray discs on the pc...I wanted to backup some of my Blu-rays to hdd and just looking to get the fastest reads when it's processing. Wish I could find that thread again where a "tweak" enabled 8x Read BD-DL. Hopefully the link will be a starting point. Thanks again. Good to see the site still going strong after all the years and the new layout. Viva MyCE! |

| I got around to hooking the drive up. First I dowloaded 8L09 firmware from codeguys site. I loaded it into MCSE and checked the Read Speed increase box. Saved it and open it in codeguy's Flash Utility 4.0.0. flashed from 8L0C --> 8L09_speedpatched. Reboot. Using AnyDVDHD and its included ripper -Avatar Blu-Ray (BD-DL) - managed a little over 1x to about 2x Using MakeMKV (AnyDVDHD disabled) - Fired Up! Blu-Ray (BD-DL) - tops out at 3.3x I'm wondering where I went wrong here. My desire is to get 6x-8x rip speeds. Can anyone help out with advice or suggestions? from ala42's site: BD-ROM DL 3.4x start/8.1x end/6.1 average |
