LiteOn / PLDS / Sony Writer Discuss, HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx? at CD, DVD and Blu-ray Writers forum; I bought a retail boxed HP dvd1270 i 24X writer. The drive is recognized in WinXP as "HP DVD Writer 1270 r KH22 ". The drive faceplate only mentions "HP dvd1270". Anyone knows which Lite-On drive it is rebadged from? P.S. I started a new thread as the other thread

HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

I bought a retail boxed HP dvd1270i 24X writer.

The drive is recognized in WinXP as "HP DVD Writer 1270r KH22".

The drive faceplate only mentions "HP dvd1270".

Anyone knows which Lite-On drive it is rebadged from?

P.S. I started a new thread as the other thread is for the 1270d, which seems to have a different name string and FW version...

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Can the EEPROM and Flash utilities recognize the drive and backup the files?

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

I think it may be a iHAS224/424 Y clone. Current version EEPROM and Flash utilities won't work with it.

Nope.

Flash Utility 3.03 gives status 8002. Read and Write flash functions greyed out.

EEPROM utility 5.0.1 gives "Error reading EEPROM from drive" when i tried to backup.

Seems like they are selling different drives using the same dvd1270i box..

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Drive appears in Binflash, but errors out when trying to dump.

This is similar to iHAS424 Y: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/liteon-...6/#post2440997

Tried to flash my 1270 with binflash 1.49b & ihas424y_zl1wbt_auto.bin, but got the following error:
Quote:
The firmware file expects a different bootcode on your drive. You are not allowed to continue.
Found 0xFFFF - expected 0x3038.
On the other hand, dumping of the KH22 firmware on the drive seems fine.

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

The drive is a liton clone, not an NEC.
The 1270 is a 224 A and the 1260 is an 124 A.

HP seems to have 2 versions of 1270 drives, the 1270d and the 1270r. (post #6).

I have the 1270r, and based on the posts in this thread it seems to be a NEC - binflash only started to work on this drive after Liggy added in iHASxxx Y drive support.

Managed to crossflash the 1270r using the "ihas424y_zl1wbt_auto" firmware after modding it using a hex editor.

Burnt a CD and DVD+RW thus far and things seem to be ok...still keeping my fingers crossed tho!

Thanks Liggy and Dee for the excellent firmwares and binflash utility!!

Can't anyone just make one drive and stop this confusing madness????

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Actually, it's pretty easy to tell if it's a mtk or nec chipset. I was at my local best buy and the mtk chipset drives have a label on the retail box where the model number ends with a and the nec chipset one, the model number ends with a y beside it. The label is right on the side of the retail box, so you don't have to open it up to find out.

Ok. You were exactly where I am now. What did you mod in the firmware? This drive is from HP, but it's a rebadged Lite-On, or NEC/Optiarc? Very confusing. Perhaps Liggy can shed some light. I'm not a newbie per se, but you can see how miss leading this all is. I've found various conflicting bits of info on this site as well as others about this drive.

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Hello everyone. I'm using a HP dvd1270r drive. I can use it with Binflash 1.52 but Flash Utility 5.0.0 and EEPROM utility 6.0.1.

I want to convert it to IHAS424 Y but I don't know how to do. Also, I can't find this file: ihas424y_zl1wbt_auto.bin.

Please help me. Thank you all.

You can find it here. Just be sure you read all about Binflash and risks of crossflashing.

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Hi there!

I bought one of these dvd1270i beasts too, and mine indentifies as
SCSI\CDROM&VEN_HP&PROD_DVD_WRITER_1270D&REV_GH23\4&3B611068&0&000
and
SCSI\CdRomHP______DVD_Writer_1270dGH23
in Windoze Device Manager.

I also used the Flash Utility 5.0.0 and KProbe2 2.5.2 with it and was able to quality scan a disk
with the second, backup the flash rom with the first. So this must surely be a writer with Mediatek
chipset.

Now, after reading lots of postings here: HOW can I find out WHICH LiteOn firmware I can flash onto
this drive? I am on http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares.html and from all I read here, the correct version
of LiteOn writer would be:
LiteOn iHAS224 A (SATA, Lightscribe)
so stock liteon fw: "ZL0P - stock" ?

The box says nothing about smarterase, but it has lightscribe, so it should be this one, am I right?
Or is there any way (in Win or Linux) to find out more about that drive, or does the flash utility do some
basic checks?

BTW it identifies the drive as
HP DVD Writer 1270d GH23 2009/07/23 17:44
and the flash as
Flash ID: EF 14 00 28 Flash size: 2MB
Flash type: NEX(NX25P16)

I looked at HP for fw updates, but their support site really is da crap and nothing is found when
searching for this device ...

Thanks in advance for answers, and if it would help to send or post the backed-up flash rom somewhere,
let me know.

best regards, datentod!

Ok. I have finally taken the time to look at this again. I have an HP 1270r. I'm trying to flash it with the ihas424y_zl1wbt_auto.bin file and getting the message:

The firmware file expects a different bootcode on your drive. You are not allowed to continue.
Found 0xFFFF - expected 0x3038.

So I found out how to modify the the bootcode in another thread usiing a hex editor. I recieved the same error. So, i'm guessing that I'm using the wrong boot code? So where can I find the correct bootcode and am I going about this the right way?

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Looks like the drive has a bootcode version that is not implemented in Binflash. Unfortunately the auto-detection does not work in the AD-7240S LiteOn OEM drives. You could try to create an identification file with the commandline version of Binflash. That one should contain the information needed to add support.

Ok. I think I follow what you're talking about. Here is the contents of the identification file i created with the -identify paramater in Binflash. I'm also attaching the file that was generated.

Thanks so much for all the help.

Re: HP dvd1270i = iHASxxx?

Ok, I've previously has a 1270i - yes "i" (from BB). It worked pretty flawlessly. I've recently learned, and as mentioned above, that it *should* be a rebadged LO - I'm thinking it should be an 1HAS424B - since it has LightScribe.

Can anyone confirm this?

If so, contrary to the complains expressed here, I'd like to try crossflashing my Asus 24B3LT to it (I've already tried to the iHAS424B and the Plextor 890SA with little additional success). However, I am unable to FIND any firmware for the 1270i.

Any ideas?

Thanks much!

If your drive is identified as HP 1270r in Windows Device Manager, you should be able to work with the 1270r firmwares from here
