LiteOn / PLDS / Sony Writer Discuss, Flashing Lite-On LTR-52246S questions at CD and DVD Writers forum; I have a Lite-On LTR-52246S and am thinking about flashing the firmware (still have the 6S02.) First, what firmware is best? I've heard some people didn't like the latest 6S0C. What tool should I flash it with? Should I use mtkflash (or whatever it's called) in DOS or use Lite-On's

The drive was sold by CenDyne. Finally, how would it change how my CD media is burned (this is the main reason that I want to upgrade)? Less C1/C2 errors on some media? More problems burning CDs? Thanks!

afaik, cendyne uses the original oem firmware for their drives, so the lite-on is in fact a "real" lite-on right out of the box without the need to flash to a new firmware, so i don't think it would void ur warranty to flash to a new firmware.

for flashing, u can use whatever method u want. if u encounter problems (such as a misflash or something) u can always recover the drive using mtk(win)flash. the easiest would probably be to use lite-on's windows-based flashers, esp since in ur situation u wouldn't need to use flashfix to patch them. i'm currently using 6S0C w/o problems, altho a few ppl do seem to have problems. if u don't like the new version, u can always just flash back to an older version.

as for changing how the media is burned, newer firmwares typically add support for more media types (ie: match more media), so smart-burn will (supposedly) have a better idea of how particular types of media should be burned.

Use Lite-On's Windows-based flashing utility. You will have support for more media types.
